bttt? (vanity)

I frequent a few websites where a thread will move to the top of the list of existing threads based on the most recent post.
I know that "bttt" means "bump to the top" and I've seen this used a number of times on FR. But I've never observed, on FR, any thread change or move its position, no matter how recent a post in that thread has been. So why is "bttt" used by a poster if it doesn't change the position of the thread?
Is there a setting I need to enable? Thanks.

We used to be able to bttt. It would keep a thread” hot”. The last few yrs this hasn’t been the case.

We used to be able to bttt. It would keep a thread hot. The last few yrs this hasnt been the case.It still works on the Latest Posts page the same as it always has. I see old threads revived all the time because someone posted on them and others were watching Latest Posts.

Thanks. I frequent general/chat and everything. I did not know that..

I don’t watch Latest Posts much any more because there are so many threads going at once these days. If things seem slow on every new thread I might check it to see if there’s a hot topic I missed that everyone is posting on.
