While at the same time it rarely celebrates anything related to the Free World, and much less anything related to the American Exceptionalism which allowed that company to exist and blossom.

Thats stretching it. This is the 50th anniversary of the first man in space, worth noting.
It is incredibly important - it was one of the most important things to happen in history, although we seem to be retreating back to earth more and more.

And now, thanks to Barry NASA is being gutted and our missions to the moon and Mars have been cancelled. After the space shuttles are retired and sent to museums were going to have to hitch a ride into space from ... the Russians!!!! As the Russians gave us a space wakeup call in the late 1950s and early 1960s were going to have another one in the coming years. If China or some other country makes it back the moon, a mission to Mars would then be the trump card.
NASA was in trouble long before Nobama. We went to the moon and then we retreated to low-earth orbit.
We were once a nation of pioneers, but over the past 30 years, we've become a nation of settlers.

And today (Friday, April 22nd) GOOGLE has an Earth Day display, instead of honoring Good Friday....
