Okay, here's the deal: Local radio legend Bob Rivers has returned to the air after a 6-month absence. He's known for his "Twisted Tunes" that skewer everything from sports to politics to local issues.
On the opening day of his new show (Apr. 1st), he premiered a new 'Twisted Tune' called "I Am Palin", done to the tune of Helen Reddy's 1970's feminist anthem "I Am Woman". In it, he makes fun of Sarah's intelligence, claiming she's nothing more than a "big time media whore". You can listen to the song at the link...

Anyway, Bob has a friend that has taken issue with the song. The friend says that Sarah is NOT stupid. No one on the show believes this. Bob has said that if he can find solid proof that she ISN'T stupid, he will retract his song. Now, the proof he's looking for has got to be more substantial than just saying "She couldn't have been governor of Alaska if she's was dumb". He looking for essays, statements from former professors, college grades, stuff like that.
I think that if ANYONE can come up with the proof that Mrs. Palin is far more than just a pretty face, FReepers can do it. I would love it if we could just INUNDATE Mr. Rivers with overwhelming evidence.
Just as soon as Mr. Rivers posts statements from *his* former professors, college grades, etc. proving *he’s* not stupid.

A song parody of “I Am Woman” called “I am Palin”? That’s the best he could do? Seems a bit lame to me.
I think you should include the evidence you gather defending Ms. Palin in the lyrics of your own song parody. I’d suggest using “Up a Lazy River” and calling your song it something like “Up Yours, Lazy Rivers”.
It’s humor. I checked your link and the song “Big Obama” sung to the tune of the big bopper was hilarious. The line, “I spend what I like” was especially great. These guys are equal opportunity satarists. You’re just being overly sensitive.
While you’re there, don’t miss “Al Gore’s Traveling Global Warming Show” or “Clinton’s Tush”. These guys are pure gold.
From Sarah Takes on Big Oil
* A Big 3 Oil Company executive, who asked not be identified, said the oil companies largely got their way in dealing with state-government officials during the Murkowski years as Alaska governor. [Note: The Big 3 are ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips and BP.]
As soon as Sarah Palin was elected governor, though, the executive told Petroleum News, “Now they (the oil companies) have got Sarah Palin (to deal with). And they’re in for the surprise of their lives. She’s as tough as any of their own negotiators, even Massey (Martin Massey, ExxonMobil)………She’s going to get the best deal she can for Alaska. It’s a sea change in how things are done up here.”
* State Rep. Eric Croft, an Anchorage Democrat and also a 2006 candidate for governor, called Palin a “bright and honest” person and predicted she would be a popular candidate during the election process that year.
“Sarah has been a leader in trying to restore ethical government to Alaska,” Croft said. “I think that’s badly needed. I think Sarah is very popular with the rank-and-file Republicans; she’s just unpopular with the corrupt leadership they have. I hope she doesn’t let their antagonism stop her from cleaning up the party.”
[Note: The Alaska Republican Party showed their antagonism by providing Palin with a grand total of only $5,500 in her general-election race against former two-term Democratic Governor Tony Knowles after she had knocked off incumbent Republican Gov. and former 20-year U.S. Sen. Frank Murkowski in the primary.]
* Dan Seamount, one of two commissioners who served with Sarah Palin in 2003 and early ‘04 on the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, said Palin is “pro-development, not pro-industry.” He said, “She’ll tell you: ‘My boss is the people of Alaska.’ She’s smart, a quick study. Her adversaries’ biggest mistake is underestimating her intelligence, her understanding of issues. And she uses their arrogance against them.”
* MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co. (part of Warren Buffett’s Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc.) was one of the corporations that decided not to apply to build a natural gas pipeline and compete against TransCanada under AGIA (Alaska Gasline Inducement Act) after being involved in attempts to move a gas pipeline forward under the Murkowski administration.
In a letter dated November 30, 2007, David Sokol, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer and a highly-respected business leader whose name has been popping up lately as a possible successor to Buffett (the world-renowned 79-year-old investment icon), referred to the corruption scandal gripping the state when he said, “The deepening and ongoing investigations into political and corporate corruption in Alaska make a thorough and thoughtful proposal in compliance with AGIA an unrealistic exercise for our organization.”
However, Sokol said he did not consider Gov. Palin’s administration to be the problem: “…your leadership and that of your administration have been outstanding,” he wrote, “and your integrity and transparent style are a breath of fresh air in what has proven to be a rather shady and smoke-filled past in regard to energy issues in Alaska.”
* Pat Galvin, commissioner of the Alaska Department of Revenue, on how it is to work with Gov. Palin: “For us she’s been very positive,” he said in 2008. “She’s what you’d always want in a CEO in the sense that she provides clear direction in terms of the policy that she’s trying to accomplish. And she participates in the discussions as a member of the team. She doesn’t…waltz into the room (and) lord over the discussion…She sits in and engages and listens and takes in information and asks questions, and then makes an assessment of the situation – a decision.”
* Tom Irwin, commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, had been fired from his post in 2005 after a disagreement with Gov. Murkowski but then was brought back by Gov. Palin after she was elected, along with several others who had quit in protest to Murkowski’s dismissal of Irwin. For an interview with Petroleum News in the fall of 2008, Irwin reflected on Gov. Palin’s leadership style: “I am a conservative Republican. I sometimes wonder where my party has gone, but my governor, Sarah Palin, is bringing it back.
“She’s a real leader,” he said. “You can disagree …and argue, and we have some hellacious arguments, but never shouting, never to the point you’re being disrespectful. “And when she has to make an unpopular decision that might reflect poorly on herself, she says, ‘I don’t care if I take a political hit. We’re going to do what’s right for Alaska.’…
“What you’re allowed to do with this type of leadership is…it allows you a process where a multitude of heads can get the right answer…Now don’t misunderstand. This is not management by committee…She allowed us to feel we worked with her, but make no doubt about it, she understood it and she was the decision-maker…It’s a management style that’s rarely found but hugely successful…
“I think a really good manager has to be grounded in fundamentals. Our governor is grounded in honesty, integrity, her faith and an understanding of the Constitution…I’ve never seen her once, ever, come close to the bright line of wanting to violate those.”
* Marty Rutherford, veteran deputy commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources, also was part of the group brought back into state government after Palin was elected Alaska’s governor. “She (Palin) is directed by facts,” Rutherford said. “She campaigned on a gross tax, but at some point we determined that the best way to go was a net tax, a tax on the profits. We had to drag her kicking and screaming to that conclusion. But she let the facts guide her…
“I enjoy working with Gov. Palin. She sets the vision and then lets you do the work. She’s responsive to arguments, to debate…I’m pretty cynical. I’ve worked with several governors. This is the first time I can say I am really quite fond of my governor…
“So many governors make decisions on ‘not what’s best for the people of the state, but how it will make them look’…When she’s in a room with you and she leaves the room to meet with the press, it’s not ‘show time.’ She’s the same person outside that room as she was inside it.”

*Governor Palin’s cornerstone accomplishment is AGIA (Alaska Gasline Inducement Act). During the Palin administration, TransCanada and Exxon formed an alliance to build a natural gas pipeline from Alaska to the Lower 48. Under Governor Palin’s governance, the project was expanded and revised from what previous governors had proposed with an open policy process for the Alaskan people. More progress was made on this effort than in the previous 30 years. This is the largest private sector infrastructure project in North American history and helps put us on the path to energy independence.
*Governor Palin’s administration opened up drilling for oil and natural gas at Pt. Thompson for the first time in decades.
*Governor Palin created the Alaska’s Petroleum Integrity Office to oversee all aspects of energy development and to make sure oilfield equipment was safe to operate and a Climate Change Subcabinet to comprehensively and honestly evaluate climate change.
Fiscal Conservatism
*Governor Palin reduced earmark requests for the state of Alaska by 80% during her administration, requesting only earmarks that would benefit the country as a whole.
* Governor Palin reduced spending in her budget for Fiscal Year 2010 by more than one billion dollars from the previous governor’s Fiscal Year 2007 budget, a 9.5% real reduction in spending. Her FY2010 budget was $10.57 billion compared to Governor Murkowski’s FY2007 budget of nearly $11.7 billion. At the same time, she fulfilled her campaign promise to forward fund education, allowing districts greater flexibility and predictability in their planning.
*Governor Palin opposed much of the “stimulus”, wanting only to accept 55% of the money allocated to Alaska, specifically only dollars dedicated to infrastructure [projects. Although the Alaskan legislature ultimately overturned her veto, she stood firm on her commitment to help Alaska to become more self-sufficient while not adding to not add to the skyrocketing national debt.
* Governor Palin invested $5 billion in state savings.
Walking the Walk on Fiscal Responsibility
*Governor Palin sold the private jet purchased by the previous governor. She state it was an unnecessary financial burden on the state and was unable to land on many of the state’s landing strips.
* To cut costs that would be incurred by continuing to use a personal driver like previous governors, the governor drove herself from Wasilla to her office in Anchorage. She also dismissed the governor’s personal chef stationed in Juneau, Alaska’s capital.
* Governor Palin accepted less state per diem for herself and her family than her predecessors even though she had a larger family.
10th Amendment Advocacy/Promotion of State Constitution
*Showing that she is a strong supporter of the 10th amendment, Governor Palin advocated for the sovereignty of the state of Alaska.
*Governor Palin’s administration sued the federal government for placing the polar bear on the endangered species list, as this restriction affected energy development which would increase energy costs.
*A Constitutionalist, Governor Palin signed Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share (ACES) bill into law. The Alaska constitution states that the Alaskan people own the oil and other resources. This law ensures that the “owners”, the people of Alaska, receive a clear and equitable share of oil profits.
National Defense/Veterans
*Governor Palin supported ground-based missile defense Ft Greely and other Alaskan Bases around to protect America from America’s enemies. She criticized the Obama administration for cuts that they made to this national defense system.
*Governor Palin, with Senators Murkowski and Begich, fought for retirement benefits from the federal government that were due to the Alaska Territorial Guard members who fought during World War II. These benefits were eventually rewarded to these veterans by the federal government.
* Governor Palin visited Alaskan soldiers in Kosovo and Kuwait.
Transparency/Anti-Corruption
*Governor Palin signed bipartisan ethics reform legislation into law that helped to hold both the legislative and executive branches accountable.

*Governor Palin introduced health care transparency legislation which aimed at putting information in the hands of consumers about cost and quality of health care as a way to make health care consumer driven and accessible.

* Governor Palin strongly supported both parental consent and parental notification legislation.

*Governor Palin implemented the Senior Benefits Program to support low income seniors.
Positions Held while Governor
* Chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.
*Vice Chair of the National Governors Association Natural Resource Committee.
* She served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska’s most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska’s communities.
She exposed legal violations and conflicts of interest of Alaska Republican leaders, including the former state Attorney General and the State GOP Chairman (who was also an Oil & Gas Commissioner), who was doing work for the party on public time and supplying a lobbyist with a sensitive e-mail. Several went to jail.

OK, so that was mildly funny. But at the end of the day I seriously doubt that Palin has anything to fear from a Bob Rivers or his satire. She’s a big girl and very capable of defending herself.
Sarah Palin primaried Governor Murkowski in 2006 and won, and then beat his immediate predecessor Tony Knowles in the general, to become governor. Before she was Sarah Palin the media phenomenon. Before anybody much south of Juneau except political geeks knew who she was. In a bad year for the GOP. Because she’s stupid.
