Yes that would also be a decent outcome from a ratings perspective. Vancouver-Tampa would be a dead-zone in the US, but would still have big ratings up north.
Thank God the Redwings are OUT OUT OUT!
Yeah, I’m looking forward to the two match ups.
But if Niemi doesn’t stop giving up rebounds, it will be a short series in the west.
Tim Thomas vs. Tampa’s offense will be great to watch too.
IMO the nightmare would be Vancouver-Tampa. San Jose has a bigger fan base than Tampa. Vancouver is a given because Canadian viewers don’t count in the ratings.
>>Vancouver is a given because Canadian viewers dont count in the ratings.
I don’t know how things work up in Canada, but don’t they also have ratings? Any Canadian team means big ratings in that country and they are hockey mad as it is. I still think (overall) from the NHL’$ per$pective, SJ-TB is the worst possible final.
Vancouver means big ratings for the Canadian network, a network whose contract with the NHL is never in jeopardy and pays consistently well. A Canadian finals in theory means mediocre ratings for VS and NBC, networks whose contracts with the NHL are constantly in jeopardy and currently don’t pay that well (pretty sure the NBC contract still has no up front money and is all revenue sharing).
Amen. Now, hopefully, the Bruins will be eliminated.
Ok that makes sense.
That’s so cool!
It’s stuff like this that makes me a die hard hockey fan!
I’ve been reading about the NHL’s TV deals for a few months, Bettman’s comments etc.. As I understand it, the ratings the NHL dies for is the American market. That’s why the winter classic is American teams only. Canada is a separate but saturated small (34 million person) market.
That's how it's gonna play out; the Canucks will win it. My only problem with this is watching those goofy green gay gumbies.
I hope not but I also think the Sharks are toast. A seven game series before this one will be their undoing. I loath the green men too. I noticed the camera guys showed them every time a Shark was in the penalty box. If they keep doing that I’ll just catch highlights instead of watching the games.
Thomas keeps that up and we’ll have to start calling him Mr. Softy!
1-0 Tampa...
Hockey Ping!

One of my hockey friends just told me about this. We watched the game and must have missed this one.
I was just happy that those freaks in green weren’t there!
Players suddenly very excited about the sin-bin ; )
They came to Nashville for our series but didn’t have seats by the box.
