A new IBOPE Zogby Interactive poll shows President Barack Obama's approval rating at 42 percent, the lowest since December, when it hit 39 percent.
The poll also finds likely voters split over whether or not a government shutdown would be harmful to the economic recovery. Forty-nine percent say they agree a government shutdown would hurt the recovery, 45 percent say they disagree and 6 percent are not sure.
When it comes to the three agree-disagree questions, responses of Republicans and Democrats are sharply divergent. Republicans are more likely than Democrats to agree military spending should be exempt from cuts and disagree that tax cuts on the wealthy should not continue and that a shutdown would harm the economy.
The poll also finds a seven-point bump from April 4 on approval of Republicans in Congress, from 34 percent to 41 percent. Approval of the Congressional GOP by Republican voters moved from 61 percent April 4 to 71 percent now. Among independent voters, approval of Congressional Republicans went from 26 percent to 32 percent.

It’s been “sinking” to 42% for the past two years. Obviously 42% of the freeloaders in this country don’t care what the Kenyan does to their freedom and liberty. As long as Barry Soetoro keeps the handouts and freebies going out, he’s their boy!
I suspect his vacations are, too. That's not the sort of thing that explicitly makes it into a poll, but it's out there in the news ... the Obama family at play in exclusive surroundings, with crises going on at the same time.
$4.00 gas? Try $5.00 gas. People are finding out what this guy is really doing. Everyone tried to tell people before he was elected and now, two years later, they are beginning to figure it out.

The elitism is sinking in. We have to pay more in taxes, but he has time and our money to vacation. We have to drive electric cars, but his vehicles are exempt. We have death pannels regulating our health care, but he and his family are exempt.
I think the American people are getting tired of ‘eating cake’.
I don’t think it will ever fall below 38 to 40%, no matter what. That’s his basement. Remember, Carter was defeated in 1980 with 41%, as awful as he was. Mondale in 84 got essentially the same with 40.6%.

While all you said is true it just isn’t inclusive enough. Lets make sure to mention all Barry’s tard allies as well as most main stream republicans. The electorate is just too stupid to figure out that any govt ‘benefit’ is stolen $ from their neighbors and most of it stays in DC while they get the left overs. We’d all be far better off if we looked to our own welfare rather than coveting what our neighbors have. As it is entitlement mentality in fly over country is alive and well.
The RNC should run ads with Obama’s quote about getting a smaller car. Something like a SMART car at an intersection with the announcer saying “This is what Obama wants all Americans to drive as he rides in his armored limo...” and then a big SUV smashes into the car at full speed.
I think that would make quite a point, especially with the suburban moms who want to make sure their children are safe in their cars and tend to be consumers of crossovers, SUVs, and minivans.
What happened to his “Tucson bounce” in the polls? The MSM told us that Tucson was his “Oklahoma City” moment, a la Bill Clinton. That was supposed to be his moment to shine, and reconnect with the American people.
Obama needs to be impeached, tried for treason and thrown into a SuperMax for the rest of his miserable life. We have never been afflicted with such an evil,incompetent marxist as President.

Exactly; there is no way they could say (with any credibility) that Obama’s popularity was holding steady.
They tried that a few months ago, but it was such obvious horse-manure; with the exception of public school teachers (those that are still working), NOBODY is better off than 30 months ago. Black people buy gas & groceries like anyone else, and even people on public assistance can still see their buying power erode.
Who is still keeping this positive opinion of him? The peace activists?
