SVU star Mariska Hargitay and husband Peter Hermann are parents for a second time. The couple quietly adopted a US born baby girl. The one-week-old addition to the family is named Amaya Josephine and the whole family, including Hargitay's five-year-old son August, helped name her. "He is over the moon," the actress told People magazine "He calls her his baby because he says the whole thing was his idea."

Are any of these women married? If they want to help needy children, contributing money so that married couples with normal lives could afford to adopt would be really nice. Jane Russell did, as well as adopting children herself (in a stable marriage, with a pretty normal life).

I recently heard a woman recount her experience of attempting to adopt domestically, then eventually adopting from Guatamala. There are so many requirements and financial costs involved. And then I see stories of incompetent biological parents who would never cut muster under adoption regulations. It just makes me shake my head.
