Click the link. Watch and listen to the beginning of the video. I found it immensely ironic and therefore hilarious. I don't want to say too much at this point. If you don't hear what I hear, freepmail me and I'll explain. You band musicians out there should get it.

Answered via freepmail. I’m hoping that someone else sees the humor I saw. Perhaps not, though. I have always tended to view things at an oblique angle.

Well, that was something completely different. The joke could be either in the real name for that piece of music or in its most commonly heard usage.

Monty Python.

“The series’ famous theme song is the first segment of John Philip Sousa’s The Liberty Bell” (Wikipedia)

Is that it?

I didn't know about the Monty Python theme. The music in the background is indeed, however, The Liberty Bell by Sousa (which you noted). I thought it was hilarious that the producers would choose a piece of music commemorating our liberation from the tyranny of Brit domination in a video which is about the British monarchy.

It has long been obvious to me that my sense of humor is different from other people's humor. This is just another example of it. [Note to self: it ain't funny if you have to explain it.]

Heh. I guess there must be some double or triple irony at work here.

The music is the iconic and otherwise universally known theme music of the Monty Python’s Flying Circus comedy series - which I presume is the reason it was chosen for that clip you posted. Not knowing - ironically, as you point out - whence it was derived.

And then you say you don’t know MPFC? Loads of those sketches are available on youtube and elsewhere. Check them out some time. You might enjoy them.

I have frequently laughed at things no one else saw anything humorous. I’m afraid this is another case. I found it ironic that the music chosen was written to honor our independence from the Brit monarchy of which the bride and groom are a part.

I do know about Monty Python. I loved the Search for the Holy Grail. But overall I haven’t enjoyed them and don’t pay too much attention. I had no idea they used “The Liberty Bell” as their theme song.

I’m sorry for wasting FR bandwidth and everyone’s time. The only other person who laughed along with me was my husband. I think he was just being polite.
