The fact that the contestants are singing duets during the American Idol competition is not new, but the fact they are performing them on performance night this season is. Duets have usually been reserved for the results show to help fill in time, but now, it looks like there is a need to fill in time in the performance show as well, with a ninety-minute block to fill on Wednesday and only six contestants left in the competition.

Yes, this is the point of the competition where things get serious, and the contestants really need to start stepping up their performances if they want America to vote for them. Entertainment Weekly revealed that the contestants will perform duets this week earlier today, but there is no word on whether or not they will be used to factor into decisions made this week.

However, if America is watching, and they will be, and someone performs badly in a duet, then it is likely to impact on the voting. There is no room for mistakes as the competition draws closer to its end. The top six will battle it out this week using the music of Carole King.

Jennifer Lopez is moving to the other side of the judges’ panel.

The “American Idol” judge will show the contestants how it’s done Thursday night when she performs her song “On the Floor” with rapper Pitbull.

The track is the first single off her new album, “Love?,” which will be released April 29.

According to Perez Hilton, Lopez will tape her performance later today, and then it will air during Thursday’s results show.

I suppose her next video will be called “Lucifer”, about how Lucifer stood up for his beliefs, and stayed true to himself.

I watched The Voice last night and liked what I saw. Once each of the 4 mentors chooses their 8 member teams, they will match up two of their team members to sing the same songs and only one of the two will get to stay, bringing their teams down to 4.

So far (last night) there were no wacky auditioners like Idol gets. I wish Idol would get away from that.

Miley Cyrus to Make Surprise Appearance on American Idol

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Miley-Cyrus-Idol-1032420.aspx

Miley Cyrus will make a surprise appearance on American Idol Wednesday, E! News reports.

The 18-year-old pop star will help mentor hopeful Lauren Alaina, who sang Cyrus’ hit “The Climb” two weeks ago for movie week. Cyrus will appear alongside permanent Idol mentor, and Interscope chairman, Jimmy Iovine.

American Idol Top 6 to duet — our dream pairings!

According to a source, Iovine invited Cyrus to help after Iovine remarked that Alaina was a “much stronger singer” than Cyrus on the show.

Cyrus appeared on Idol last year to help mentor the top 11 finalists during #1 hits week.

He was saying she feels she won’t win.

Being in the bottom 3 week after week would give that impression.
