Adolf Hitler once proclaimed, “we will not only create a Germany of power, but also a Germany of beauty.” Much earlier, and spoken at a time when Germany had been financially suffering for many years from what they deemed to be the international crisis of capitalism foisted upon them by the Treaty of Versailles, Hitler once simplified the purpose of the National Socialist movement, “I have the ambition to make the German people rich and Germany beautiful.” While scholar after scholar has spilled a lot of ink describing Nazi Germany’s political power and the Third Reich’s economy, relatively few have paid much attention to the second aspect of Hitler’s overall plans for Germany – to make it beautiful. This certainly would have included Hitler’s grandiose romantic plans to help turn cities like Berlin into a Greco-Roman Germania, but it also included sweeping environmental legislation at the federal level that made Nazi Germany the greenest regime on the planet by 1935 ...

Dr. Miller answers: “The children systematically subjected to obedience drill around the turn of the century were not only exposed to corporal ‘correction’ but also to severe emotional deprivation. The upbringing manuals of the day described physical demonstrations of affection ... as indications of a doting, mollycoddling attitude. Parents were warned of the disastrous effects of spoiling their children, a form of indulgence entirely incompatible with the prevalent ideal of rigor and severity.”

An example is this excerpt from Wie erziehen wir unseren Sohn Benjamin? How Shall We Rear our Son Benjamin?], a 1902 manual by A. Mathias, quoted in For Your Own Good: “Is it not doting when the baby is coddled and pampered in every way from infancy? Instead of accustoming the baby from the very first day of his life on earth to discipline and regularity in his intake of nourishment ... doting lets itself be guided by the infant’s crying ... Doting ... allows itself to be dominated by a blind desire to be kind, as if this were a natural instinct; it permits when it should forbid, is lenient when it should punish.…

“It is the opposite of true love, which does not shrink from punishment. The Bible says, ‘he who loves his son chastises him often with the rod, that he may be his joy when he grows up’ ...and ‘Pamper your child and he will be a terror, indulge him and he will bring you grief ‘” Thus we have found the roots of “tough love,” an extreme attempt to control and suppress.

In her discussion of the Nazis Dr. Miller says, “The rigorous obedience training [of Eichmann, Himmler, Hoess, etc.] in earliest infancy stunted the development of such human capacities as compassion and pity for the sufferings of others. They were incapable of emotion in the face of misfortune... Their total emotional atrophy enabled the perpetrators of the most heinous crimes imaginable to function ‘normally’....

“Dr. Mengele could perform the most cruel experiments on Jewish children in Auschwitz and then live for 30 years like a ‘normal,’ well-adjusted man... only men and women who had experienced mental and physical cruelty in the first weeks and months of life ... could possibly have let themselves be made into Hitler’s willing executioners ... no amount of indoctrination alone, at school or wherever, will unleash hatred in a person who has no preconditions in that direction.”

V. ABUSIVE TREATMENT CONTINUED IN THE 1900s

It is not to be supposed that the severe treatment of children characteristic under the Nazis was markedly less so elsewhere. The public school philosophy and system was largely developed from German models, the Prussian discipline, Teutonic precision, and authoritarian ethic was much admired by the many millions of European immigrants during the 19th century. An estimated one million-plus German-speaking immigrants arrived during the decade of 1840-1850 alone. The German gymnasium, with its military-oriented, strict, and systematic suppression of school children suited a nation’s school system whose task it was to mold and coerce its second-generation immigrant pupils into one, loyal, obedient citizenry.

The above is not the article that I was referring to but this gives you an idea of what I am talking about......I do want to find that other article...it was the most detailed, atrocious document I have ever read....and believe me when I say, I have read tons of material.....about serial killers, pornographers, concentration camps, etc. The article I am referring to was one of the worst thing I had ever read....right up there with Dr. Mengele (but it was perpetrated by the parents.)

Where you born in Germany? Possibly but I'll bet, not. Are you a US citizen? I'll venture a guess, Yes! Then you are NOT 100% German. My answer to those questions is YES, NO! I AM 100% German! therefore I'll use my personal experience growing up with German parents, Opa/Oma, Unkle, Tante. The strict parenting style of my German family kept me from being a juvenile delinquent. I THANK my German family for their Prussian discipline, Teutonic precision, and authoritarian ethic. I have been a productive adult with good/kind productive children and grandchildren who will grow up to be good/kind and productive.

Oh, and just so you know, your BROAD statement "Many parents (especially German and Russian parents prior to 1930’s) were very cruel to young children."not only hit my German nerve. My Oma & Opa farmed in a German community in what was called Volhynia (USSR) before 1939. That's in the Ukraine. They were somehow able to somehow make a living, raise children, and keep their humanity. YOU have a soft life in the USA. They suffered thru government policies of starvation, the savagery of WWII but were the kindest people you'd ever meet.

Of course YOU, live in a lovely country where 1000 babies are aborted per day thanks to Planned Parenthood being government funded! That's almost 500,000 a year. Since 1999 that's 6,000,000 inocent children.

Whoa.... You are over sensitive. I love my German roots...and yes, I was born in the US but both sets of grandparents came over on a boat and one almost died. My mother spoke German and my father didn’t but was raised on a huge farm. I have only German blood through 6 generations. True, I am an American and I do love this country and thank God I was born here, which was still a largely Christian country. My parents were very strict also but never cruel to us and always just. We had to work in the fields when we were 5 and up every summer. It was good for us. Strict is not cruel and never should be.

I have read a lot about the Weimar Republic and the Postmodernism was rife since the Frankfurt University was in your country. The ugly philosophy that seeped into your culture was rife in Berlin and the cities and Christianity was demeaned and ridiculed and marginalized so much that Christianity is pretty much wiped out of Europe—exactly as the Postmoderns in Germany planned back in the 1800’s. Were all Germans of the mindset of Himmlers and Eichmans....the books I read, said that Germans had no qualms about euthanasia for the mentally retarded, etc. They were comfortable in the adoption of utilitarianism which is anathema to Christian ideology.

Did you read Dostoevsky? Do you honestly think that most parents in Russia and Germany were conscientious and loving to their children? Did they drink? Some were good parents, yes, absolutely, but enough weren’t, so that we had thousands who were able to butcher and torture and kill millions of human beings without batting an eye.

Study serial killers....they have one thing in common....abusive and ugly childhoods. They were treated in cruel ways—inhuman ways—like the Romanian orphans....they had no ability to have any compassion.

Yes, there were some very kind parents....strict is always important, but children need nurture and love if they are going to have any empathy for fellow human beings. Otherwise, they end up like Manson who was an illegitimate kid who was abused by a series of adults in his young life.

So, you think Hitler had a kind father? Himmler????? Eichman?????? I say they had horrible childhoods. Their parents could not have taught them biblical worldview.

I have read a lot about the Postmodernism of the PROGRESSIVES and the DEMOCRATIC PARTY that is rife at PRINCETON University, HARVARD, COLUMBIA U, etc is in your country. The ugly philosophy that seeped into your culture is now rife in WASHINGTON, NEW YORK City, SHITCAGO, SAN FRANCISCO, etc. Christianity is demeaned and ridiculed and marginalized so much that Christianity is pretty much wiped out.........THERE FIXED IT!

You talk about your PSYCHO reading program concerning PAST events, wagging your finger, with a noisy TISK, TISK! However, those PAST events should be sign posts and teaching lessons for today. BUT they are not! In an earlier reply to you, I brought up the SIX MILLION abortions in the USA. You don't comment on that! Our universities started being infested in 1880 from the immigrant Germans who infected Columbia U. and all of the elite universities....But it took time....Europe was ahead of us in all aspects of nihilistic Postmodernism. True, Hegel, Kant, Schopenhauer Nietzsche, Marx, etc. etc.—their ideas became dominate here, BUT where did they originate?????? That is where they took hold first.....Germany.

Look at the vile plays that appeared in 1919 in the Weimar Republic.....mainstream society. Very sick!!! And yes, those ideas infected all of Western Civilization. WE did not succumb to the vile filth that was pouring out of the Weimar republic because of the Great Depression. America went back to the Churches.....Germany didn’t...they turned and adored their new god, Hitler. Were there some good Germans? Absolutely....but they turned the corner from majority Christian worldview to a dominate atheist/pagan/occult worldview.

The US is divided...we still have pockets of devout Christians...but the New Agers are destroying those Churches as I am typing. Is there hope for those aborted? Not with the Postmodernists.....only if we get back to God-centered society.

I don’t know what you are so angry about. You feel insulted that I am generalizing....stereotypes exists because of patterns that are obvious and can be measured. I studied many child development approaches. It has been a lifelong interest. I am aware of the uniqueness of every human being but I understand worldview. Only the God-centered ideology give dignity and worth to all people....and babies. Postmodernism is part Darwinism.....we are just “trousered apes”.

BTW, Europe is not reproducing themselves—America is doing the best job in reproduction of any Western country.........so if abortion is such a BIG issue with you-—what in the H8ll is Germany doing?????????????????? Contraception can also be a form of abortion, and it all stems from the same thing.....a godless, nihilism. Unless Western Civilization turns to God, they will be annihilated—that means Germany as well as the US. Yes, I do agree with you, in the fact that we are destroying our cultures...in all of Western Civilization.
