Herd of deer killed by lightning
Chicago Tribune ^ | 4-3-11

Seven deer -- including six huddled in a circle -- were found apparently killed by lightning in a southern Wisconsin farm field, neighbors and authorities said Tuesday.

The deer were likely killed Sunday night, said neighbor Randy Lantz, 54.

“It’s bizarre,” Lantz said.

After neighbors found the deer Monday and called authorities, a Kenosha County Sheriff's deputy on Tuesday went out to the rural field located near Salem, Wis., about 5 miles from the Illinois border, and found the six dead deer lying in a circle with another one a distance away.

In the center of the group of six there was a hole about 5 inches deep and 5 inches across, said Sgt. Bill Beth of the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department.

Something similar has happened to grazing horses in the State of Washington.

Electricity is conducted through ground water, electrocuting the animals through their hooves. This is no joke.

Lightning killed ~25 beautiful cattle on a place where I worked in west Tennessee a few years ago. So devastating to see the bulldozer digging a mass grave...not good for the bottom line either!

Police are searching the surrounding counties for a large, shiny, disk-shaped object seen fleeing the scene shortly after the incident. Forensic ufologists are on the scene now sifting the ground for clues.

When I was growing up, a man lost over 50 head of cattle to a single lightning strike. They were all taking shelter around the tree that got hit.

June 18, 2009 Lithia, Florida.
Fifteen head of cattle, all humpbacked Brahmans, lay dead in an open pasture of the 160-acre Bar-S-Bar Ranch in Lithia, the apparent victims of a lightning strike. Twelve cows, two calves, and a bull. Not near any trees.

“When I was growing up, a man lost over 50 head of cattle to a single lightning strike. They were all taking shelter around the tree that got hit.”

You are correct sir, years ago down in Florida when ranchers started clearing woods for improved pastures having better grasses, they usually left a few large oak trees as shade for the cattle who also used them for shelter during storms. A single lightening strike could kill many aggregated cattle under these trees. The cows didn’t know any better, unlike the tourist golfers who prance around wearing metal spikes in wet ground while holding lightning rods (golf clubs) in their hands!!

Arnold Palmer once said that if caught in a lighting storm while golfing, and you have a 1 iron, get it out and hold it up over your head, because not even God can hit a 1 iron.....
