The machine is an asus laptop with windows 7 home premium: The error message when you attempt to log on is:

user profile service failed the log on

user profile can not be loaded

We are able to load in safe mode with networking. At first we thought changing the password would fix the issue but it didn't.

We can use it normally except for this log on problem.

There’s not an administrative account set on the machine and it won’t let us create one. All those options have a shield beside them and won’t let us click them.

I guess reinstall windows is the option.

2. purchase a MacBook or iPad.

2. purchase a MacBook, or MacBook and an iPad. Might as well be accurate since you'll need both to sync. Or, ignore useless advice from iSnobs.

I’m sure there is/was an Administrator account. If you’ve forgotten the password, I would get a linux bootdisk, boot from it, and reset the Administrator account password.

Press F8 while booting and choose restore from the menu. Follow the instructions to restore your configuration to a point in the past before the problem occurred.

I know several people who have downloaded and used this "gadget":

http://www.spotmau.com/

I know they swear by it. Say it'll fix any windows problem.
I've never used it so I can't verify that.
However, you might want to take a look at it.

I’ve seen this happen on my laptop. Try restoring to your last restore point and you should be good to go.

The wife infected the old desktop we had. The Spotmau superdisk couldn't rescue the computer, but it does have a great stand alone program for getting data off the computer and onto a portable drive.

One could save the data reinstall windows, put the data back on and then set up a good backup plan. They also have some kind of license key rescue program as well.

As far as those "Oh S%#t" programs go, it is the best one I've used.

You do know there are two kind of Mac users.

You have die hard, were using them when they couldn't do anything and weren't compatible with anything users, that named all their kids (girls included) Steve.

The other kind is the liberated Microsoft user, who got fed up with Windows and decided to give Mac a try. Seriously, if Bill Gates was going to design an operating system that bogs down when you open multiple programs why didn't he call it Window instead of Windows?

I was a die hard Windows guy until I bought a PC laptop with Vista on it. The more I used it, the slower it got. I got fed up and when my last desktop PC got killed by a virus so I made the leap. I'm not going back.
