Davie, Florida, (March 28, 2011)– South Florida small business owner and 2010 Republican candidate for Congress Karen Harrington has declared her candidacy for United States Congress in Florida’s 20th Congressional District in 2012.

As a first-time candidate in 2010, Harrington garnered nearly 40 percent of the vote in her race against incumbent Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

“Today, I formally announce my campaign for U.S. Congress. For those of you who know me, you know me as a neighbor and small business owner who has been privileged to serve the Broward community for nearly four decades. You also know that I am fully committed to ensuring that the people’s business throughout the District is not needlessly stifled by government intrusion. As I’ve had the opportunity to listen and meet with the residents of the district out on the campaign trail over the past few years, it is very clear that your concerns mirror my concerns about both our economy and the direction of our country, and we can no longer remain on the sidelines as our country slides into further debt and fiscal insolvency.

“My campaign for U.S. Congress is not premised on towing a party line or walking in lock step with the Republican establishment. The duty that comes before all others is safeguarding the prosperity and liberties of the people of the 20th Congressional District, and I will never waver in my resolve from that commitment.

“It is my intention to broadly communicate our campaign’s ideas to all voters throughout District 20, regardless of party affiliation, as to how we can preserve our prosperity and our liberties through common sense and principled solutions that will put our country back on a fiscally sustainable path. I will be a tireless advocate for proven ideas that roll back government regulation and taxation and allow South Florida’s small businesses to prosper. Ours will be a campaign of new ideas and real hope for the future direction of our country, and I intend to take our campaign’s message directly to the district’s constituents early and often.”

Wasserman-Schultz is a Barbara Boxer in the making.

As a fellow Californian I must say that's an alarming prospect!

How much of a sympathy vote did Debbie Wasserman-Schultz get in 2010?

I'm not surprised at the error. I see idioms frequently fumbled in this manner. It should be reported. Perhaps the person listed at the top of the release could be informed:

If you refer to her breast cancer, not much since Karen Harrington is a breast cancer survivor herself.

good luck beating Debbie in the nursing home vote

This is a Florida wide fraud issue, not just in South Florida.

DWS got national attention from the state ran media! She would have gotten that if she were to announce she just bought a pair of brand new shoes!

Whatever else one may think about Fox News, Fox cannot be considered part of the “state ran(sic) media.

Karen Harrington has been on FNC, talking about her campaign. Everyone else was too busy praising DWS.

I distinctly remember a Fox interview with DWS and praising her as brave, courageous and heroic.

Deb Wasserman Schultz will be difficult to defeat - primarily because her district is one of the most politically active Jewish-American areas. Ms. Schultz appears to be strongly allied with Jewish political goals, especially in America.

I think her vulnerability lies within those same parameters. While she has championed such causes as the Jewish American Heritage Month, she has a lack-luster record viz-a-viz Israel. She has supported financial aid to the Palestinian cause, some of which has either been squirreled away in Swiss banks or spent on weapons to destroy Israel. She defends her position saying that Democraps are more pro-Israel than Republicans... a claim that would need to be challenged. She says Repubbies are too 'pro-Christian' with an 'Armageddon' mentality, an argument that probably goes over well in her district.

She is a member of Planned Parenthood and a strong supporter of public funding for abortion. Some headway might be made against this on the grounds that - for example - in New York City - public funded abortions have contributed to about 60% of black infants being aborted... a clear case of genocide. The founder of Planned Parenthood - Margaret Sanger - wrote publicly of her desire to severely limit or eliminate inferior races such as blacks... a goal still being pushed by Planned Parenthood. Also, Planned Parenthood supports transporting minor women across state lines to get abortions without their parents knowledge... and will suppress evidence of child molestation / abuse in such cases.

She is on the Homeland Security subcommittee... perhaps she could face some vulnerability there in light of the Obama Administration's reticence to recognize 'terrorism' as a national security issue.

She is rated the 'most powerful' Fla representative in the U.S. House... I am not sure this is completely supportable, but it high-lites her strength politically. I suppose Karen Harrington knows most of this by now... Schultz will be difficult to unseat.

Immediately following last November's elections the media [including Fox News] began pushing her image on the screen in relation to various current issues; the coverage was consistently favorable. Those powers-that-be [whomever that might be] are obviously grooming her for greater things.

“Well, does she have a chance against Nancy’s Poodle in that Dhimmi district?
I’d love to see that airhead hit the road but unless I’m wrong that’s a gerrymandered ‘rat district.”

Yes, she does have a great chance...IF THE VOTERS GET TO see and hear Karen Harrington and Debbie W. Schultz in a debate or two! Debbie was able to refuse to debate Karen last time around but she won't this time!

And yes, District 20 is a strong Democrat registered district, but so was Ron Klein's District 22. We saw what happened to Ron Klein after folks got to see him debate Allen West! I saw Klein supporters sitting near me state after the debate that they were NOT going to vote for Ron Klein again.

The voters in District 20 need to get the information and truth about Karen Harrington and they will more than likely chose Karen as their new congresswoman! Karen needs our support and donations, just like Allen West did.

All I can say is find someone to support who will run against him in the Primary. Or better still, run against him yourself!

Hi Bob,
I know everything you said is true, but this time around we might see many folks in District 20 realize that if they support Israel, they do NOT want to vote for Debbie W. Schultz!
