I was taught to use two space in my high school typing class years ago. I’ve tried using one space, but it just feels wrong.
I have used double spaces ever since.
When was the last time you used a typewriter? It was correct then, but that was then, this is now. See my previous reply to Matt for the technical reasons why.
You are not alone. My high school typing class was split into two sections. The first section dealt with typing basics on a massive IBM Selectric. The second section consisted of using word processing software. I do use single spacing for publications at work because it is the workplace style. Still, I have to fight the urge to strike the space bar twice after each period. All of my academic work has been done with double spacing.
Ditto
Same here, I was also taught in my high school typing class that it was two spaces after the period. But as you can see here I’ve slipped from that practice. Or have I? :)
Nuns forced me to use 2 spaces, and I have the ruler marks on my hands to prove it. But I broke the habit and am now a happy one-spacer. It really makes the world a brighter space and my word process documents are smaller as a result.
So, I am a happy person now.
My high school typing teacher just died. She was a two space freak. This story would kill her.
That’s exactly where I learned to use two spaces and I always use two and nobody has ever complained.
That’s why I use two spaces. I didn’t know that there was an argument going on.
