what's better KFC vs Popeye

We just had Popeyes for dinner. There was a lively discussion regarding it compared to KFC. I'd like your thoughts. I say you can't beat the red beans and rice though.

Church’s is rare in California, and they tend to have their stores only in the “ghetto” areas.

White Fence Farm. Now that’s a place to go. But too far from Rochelle with today’s gas prices for a chicken dinner...

I have never heard of Popeyes or the others, but KFC (or Col. Sander's as we used to call it) is not as good as it used to be. Their coleslaw is very good though.

I think Popeye's is a southern thing. Same for Church's and Bojangles. In Texas we had Church's and Bush's, both very good.

I think someone mentioned going to "ethnic" neighborhoods for chicken earlier. When we were kids my dad would pile us in the car and drive us to the "black part of town", as he called it, because they had the best chicken. I don't know if he was full of it or what. But we made the drive nonetheless.

When KFC stopped selling pints of gravy, it really pi...., I mean it angered me. How dare they cave in to the food Nazis!?

??? Can still get it at the KFC around these parts. Of course biscuits and gravy are real popular around here.

I love Popeye, especially the extra spicy. KFC is boring in comparison.

Slight edge to KFC original but I eat Popeye's spicy, too. I like the Popeye Cajun Rice and the Red Beans and Rice. I also like Church's. Damn, I'm about to grow feathers if I keep on eating all this chicken.

Depends on who’s preparing it. Some KFC’s are better then others.

Don’t know about Popeyes. The Popeyes I went to one time.... yuk!

Same here in Michigan with Church’s. They have them on a very busy street or a very rough residential neighborhood. They closed one near my house, the strips were good but the chicken tasted like the stuff you buy in a box frozen at the supermarket. Gross

KFC was great back in the days when the Colonel was still alive, the "Original" Recipe actually was original, and livers and gizzards were on the menu.

But now...Popeye's hands down!

Never been to Popeye's.

I loved the old, original recipe KFC, then they let the environuts bully them into changing the type oil they used and the results was like 3-day old chicken..awful. That was almost two years ago and I haven't been back.

I understand that they reverted back to the old oil, but I haven't been back to try it.

I mostly get my chicken at Chic Filet now.

I have not had either in years but I have had KFC which was absolutely delicious and I have tried KFC which was just plain awful.

On average Popeye’s is best but if you get Kentucky Fried Chicken which has been done right, it is as good as it gets.

Most grocery stores sell rotisserie chickens at a reasonable price and they taste way better than any chain fried chicken, IMHO

[I prefer sit down restaurants with a great reputation and known for good chicken dinners rather than fast food joints.]

I looked at the link and got hungry.

Popeye all the way, no comparison. Both the regular and spicy are great.

True, but I choose KFC for sentimental reasons. Their original recipe; their original idea - the best.

Too bad that, after the Colonel was gone, those left in charge had to ruin it with the grilled thing . . .that stuff is nasty!

I don’t eat fried chicken, but go to Popeye’s for the red beans & rice and cajun mashed potatoes. Yum!
