I was messing around ( on someone else's thread ) and suddenly got nostalgic for my influences from the 70's and thought about my absolute favorite cover in the world, a song that I would never tire of....
Here it is...

Don’t know if this counts, but I am such a fan of Michael Allman. (Gregg’s son) (He’s in my Mafia on FB, and I promote the hell out him every chance I can :) )
His CD Hard Labor Creek is gorgeous - but here’s a live version of Statesboro Blues...

BAM!
VERY nice!
Yeah, that counts!!!
wicked stuff, dude!!!
really cool!!!
welcome to FR...
for a dark turn, check out this interpretation of Edgar Allen Poe’s “Raven”.

I’m not a big Clapton fan, but SRV covers Hendrix damn well.. better than Hendrix — did I say that out loud...
In the Rock spectrum, “Since I’ve Been Loving You” is a pretty cool cover by Zep.
>> Dont know if this counts, but I am such a fan of Michael Allman.
I’ve seen him at BB Kings, and a basement bar in St Louis. Sounds just like his dad.
Michael Allman is such a talent in his own right - and I can say from personal experience that he is a wonderful gentleman. I LOVE everything that the Allman Brothers ever did; Michael is a wonderful link in the chain of Southern rock and blues.
His voice is chilling, so smooth and sexy.. but I digress..
I had the chance to see him in person, but I declined - I am definitely not cool enough and would bring down his demographics! LOL!
Just now on FB I see he has 7 new friends - I so hope it’s from FRiends here!!!
Most. Kick-ass. Song. EVER.
I always thought Hendrix sounded a lot like Robin Trower.
Oh man, Trower rocks! James Dewar, God rest his soul, was awesome. Seen RT over the last couple of years. Good stuff, but short shows.
Not a studio version, but with the band backing him up, I'll put it up against nearly any studio recording!
Stevie Wonder - We Can Work It Out
Funky 70's Stevie covering the Beatles, how can you not love it?
Earth, Wind, & Fire - Got to Get You Into My Life
Another R&B Beatles cover with a totally original take, and one of the only redeeming things to come out of the Sgt. Peppers movie.
Aretha Franklin - Eleanor Rigby
That'll complete my triumvurate of funky Beatles covers... though I'm tempted to include Marvin Gaye's Yesterday, it's just as good.
Rolling Stones - Not Fade Away
The Stones re-Diddleyized what Buddy Holly countrified, and it probably sounds better than the Holly original and the Diddley records that inspired it.
This was a revelation the first time I heard it, don't know what else to say.
Just the drums alone make this one worth a listen.
Tuts & The Maytals - Louie Louie
Reggae pioneers reinvent a rock classic, and you might actually be able to hear the lyrics, if you can get past the Jamaican accent!
Seger System - River Deep, Mountain High
Another live one, but with Seger, that's a bonus. Not much room for improvement over Tina's version, but this one doesn't disappoint.
Nice pick! Is there such a thing as a Creedence cover that doesn’t rock?
Ooh, I’m surprised nobody thought of that one yet, good one!
I like their cover of Words of Love too, the harmonies are delicious.
