Also, both www.thetruthaboutguns.com and www.thefirearmsblog.com have an entry and comments about a Mosin-Nagant receiver failure!

I have fired several Nagants, and they are utter garbage compared to the M21, M24 and M40 SWS's.

Wow! That was quick! The party crashers don’t usually show up on MN threads until post 20 or 30! :)

I have never been a fan of the Mosin-Nagant either. The mausers are far more refined and more pleasant to carry with the flat bottomed receivers.
To give the devil his due, they are reliable, tough and accurate.

NAGANT RING-A-DING-DING!

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Well, if you have $1,500+ to drop for an M-1A, another several hundred for fancy optics, then yet another several hundred bucks stocking up on 7.62x51 ammo, then by all means, do it.
But for those of us here in the real world, the Mosin-Nagant is a damn fine weapon. I own two, both of which hit accurately out to 200-250 yds with iron sights. The rifles, together with 2,000 rounds of ammo and 50 or so stripper clips, cost me just over $400, with tax. I'm sure prices have gone up since I bought all that two years ago, but they're still a good buy for anyone on a budget.

Best $100 you can spend in my book. Since silver is high the 91/30 might be the better investment! I need a few more.
Last one was on sale for 99 bucks with full kit, bayonet, sling, and had a beautiful bore. The cosmoline is a pain in the butt though!

Bent bolts and scope mounts can be had. Thus scoped, easily slams the steel targat @300yds. With a distinctive ring rather than a girly man .223 ping.

I ordered my first two MN’s and am expecting delivery in the next week or so. Now I know this isn’t the best place to get opinions and information (that was sarcasm) on rifles but I’m hoping I can get a bit of advice on the best methods to clean these bad boys up.
Thanks in advance to all.

I have fired several Nagants, and they are utter garbage compared to the M21, M24 and M40 SWS's. Your criticism would be valid if you could buy those guns FOR THE SAME PRICE as a Nagant. Since you can't, your statement is comparable to somebody saying that a $15K Honda Fit is garbage compared to a $120K Mercedes.
There are lots of Americans who can get away with spending $200 for a Nagant and some ammo, whose wives would divorce them if they spent $2K on a high-end rifle.

Thank you very much.
Mine are the hex receivers which were purchased from J&G. There's not a whole lot of info on their website as to origin, etc. But I've done business with them before so I'm reasonably sure I'll be pleased.
Thanks again. I'll look that guy up when I get there.

That would be a fun mod to have!
(lot’s of collectors would shudder at the sporerizing of the Finnish Mosin and the M44 carbine at the site)
