Here's something positive in Japan to break up the unending headlines about Fukushima.
Via Good Magazine, here's a before-and-after photo of a highway that was totally torn up after the earthquake.
The time lapse is three days.

Hell, it’s been ten years since 9/11 and still we haven’t rebuilt on Ground Zero.
Maybe after they are finished, they can come over here and put up a new WTC. Should only take them a couple of months at the rate they are going!
I have no problem with us having a multi-racial society, with all kinds of different cultures, as long as we share common values. We've sadly gotten way too far away from that in the last 50 years.

The 'after' picture appears to be taken a few hundred feet further back then the 'before' picture.

We could have done it already if we had the collective will to do so. It took New York only about 18 months to build the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING in 1930-31 ( the height of the great depression), and was finished about a month ahead of schedule and $5 million under budget.
We showed we could do it then. We have better technology today, but we don’t have the spirit to do it.
When carbon fiber fails (and it does), it fails catastrophically.

Looks like a different stretch of road. I believe in the second pic the damaged area is on down the road quite a little ways.

Wanna bet union work is not mandatory, the government is not running the project for the exclusive benefit of the Teamsters and politicians are not looking for taxpayer handouts to big time contributors?
