The Daily Mail ^ | March 2, 2011 | Matt Blake

When wealthy French bachelor Louis Mantin demanded that nobody touch his lavish mansion for 100 years after his death, even the occupying German army paid heed.

The eccentric recluse, who died in 1905, wrote in his will that he wanted Maison Mantin, in Moulins, Central France, to be turned into a museum dedicated to himself and his gentlemanly lifestyle.

His vision was for visitors to experience his world a century on, uncorrupted by the passing of time. In doing so he ensured he was not forgotten.

“....even the occupying German army paid heed.”

.
Dumbass ‘resistance’ — they could’ve used the chateau as a hiding place.

from the comment section...

he was, the most interesting man in the world... his blood smelled like cologne... even his enemies listed him as their emergency contact number... the police questioned him frequently, just because they found him interesting... he COULD touch the art in museums... he once had an awkward moment just to see what it felt like... his personality was so magnetic, that he wouldn;t have been able to carry credit cards if they existed at the time... he was a lover, not a fighter... but he was also a fighter so don't get any ideas... he could speak russian, in french... he could've disarmed you with his charm... or his hands... either way... his beard alone had experienced more than most men's entire bodies. stay dead, my friend. - howard roark, obama-occupied usa, 03/3/2011 17:24

Thanks Cincinna.

And now I've got the Allen Sherman parody, "Old King Louie" humming in my head.

Just adding to the catalog, not sending a general distribution.

Knick-knack at the mansion, 'battle of the frogs'.

This is really a fascinating story.

Perhaps he should’ve had himself taxidermied and put under glass like the “fighting frogs”.

Funny. This sounds like that beer commercial where the bearded “renaissance man” says at the end, “Stay thirsty, my friend”.

Knick-knack at the mansion, 'battle of the frogs'

Which French civil war does that commemorate?

I like the comment from the twink who thinks they should have moved refugees in there. In that case, they could have saved all the money for the restoration and just dumped them in with the rats, spiders, and woodworm ...

This reminds me of “Woolaroc,” one of the Phillips Oil brothers’ properties near Tulsa.
