Several speculative theories in physics involve extra dimensions beyond our well-known four (which are broken down into three dimensions of space and one of time). Some theories have suggested 5, 10, 26, or more, with the extra spatial dimensions "hiding" within our observable three dimensions. One thing that all of these extra dimensions have in common is that none has ever been experimentally detected; they are all mathematical predictions.
More recently, physicists have been theorizing the possibility of lower dimensionality, in which the universe has only two or even one spatial dimension(s), along with one dimension of time. The theories suggest that the lower dimensions occurred in the past when the universe was much smaller and had a much higher energy level (and temperature) than today. Further, it appears that the concept of lower dimensions may already have some experimental evidence in cosmic ray observations.
Now in a new study, physicists Jonas Mureika from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, and Dejan Stojkovic from SUNY at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, have proposed a new and independent method for experimentally detecting lower dimensions. They've published their study in a recent issue of Physical Review Letters.

Why the brain-work type of post on a Friday night?
Seems as they are discussing an unraveling of the tightly wound dimensions one-by-one in the early universe, leaving the rest tightly wound as today. Nice idea as there is some observational evidence that can be interpreted in this model.
The following works great in putting me to sleep within 10-15 pages
“The Shape of Inner Space -
String Theory and the Geometry of the Universe’s hidden Dimensions”
By Shing-Tung Yau (of Calabi-Yau fame).
No equations, but will challenge you with no-nonsense information. It does provide notions to help interpret the above.
I think they’re adding unnecessary elements.
That is, physics has long used the concept that space and time are basically perpendicular axes, that have a multiplicative effect on each other, giving rise to 3D space. A 4th dimension is added with mass and gravity, that distort the space-time continuum.
This would conveniently explain why no “gravity particle” has been detected, because gravity would not be a thing, but a distortion of 3D space by the 4th dimension.
Maybe that is where my missing socks are?

Yes, pls place me in the String Theory ping list please?
I always thought it was awfully coincidental that particles circle a nucleus the way planets circle stars.
The universe has a basement? Gee, that explains all sorts of things...
Let’s just get to the nuts and bolt of Dimensions. We are talking about life.
Two equal and opposite magnetic forces (positive & negative)coming together to create equilibrium, and from within this balance, the seeds of life (atoms) are manifested (radiated) into existence. Where these currents intersect a magnetic vortex (black hole) can be formed within a field of equilibrium (aka the 3rd Dimension).
So we just see each other in the 3rd Dimension even though we live in all 10 Dimensions at the same time. God lives in the 11th. He is the Alpaha and the Omega in all things. Kind of like the movie the Matrix :)
The 3rd Dimension is our Equal
A fun way of imagining the fourth dimension (or what one of the possibilities for the fouurth dimension could be) is to remove the slices of time that we experience. If you were living in 2 dimensions you would see slices of 3 dimensional objects, so a sphere may appear as increasing and decreasing circles as it passed through your world. Extrapolating that idea we can imagine seeing the fourth dimension by seeing 3D objects existing in all points of time and space that they have inhabited .... a kicked footbal would appear as a long sausage, starting from the place it was kicked and stretching to the place it comes to rest.
It gets tricky when you try to imagine all the objects in the universe as stretched out and inhabiting all the places and times that they have ever been.......or if you want to take it a step further......all the places they will ever be
Somebody also paid that fool Einstein.
Which dimension is the one where I get the girl?
—
The one on the lower right, but it collapsed as soon as it was observed. Sorry.
Turtles all the way down ...
L=10
hehe..that’s the lower dimension...
Higher dimensions are fine as long as there is beer.
:-)
