Having grown up under western civilizations strong Christian foundations, modern man has imbibed deeply from the biblical-eschatological view of history in spite of his secularity, we of today, concerned with the unity of universal history and with its progress toward an ultimate goal or at least toward a better world, are still in the line of prophetic and messianic monotheism however little we may think of ourselves in those terms.
Christian theology about the apocalypse has been transposed into secular progressive ideologies like Socialism, Marxism, and even Nazism as well. As Christianity receded behind the wave of naturalism and secularism in western culture, apocalyptic political hubris filled in the vacuum left behind. Ironically enough, this has also led to insoluble political burdens which continue to haunt the modern mindset as ideologues, policy analysts and politicians foist upon unsuspecting populaces the full crushing weight of their apocalyptic concerns, the moderns elaborate a philosophy of history by secularizing theological principles and applying them to an ever increasing number of empirical facts.
A good case in point of this modern contradiction is the global warming apocalypse being preached by environmentalists these days ...

Oh, there will be “global warming” all right, just not the type they have in mind.
The book of Revelation promises and predicts (Rev 16:9) a global warming apocalypse, but not because capitalism is out of control, but because sin against a holy God will be in its final and climactic rebellious form. 2 Peter 3 also predicts intense heat.
