My hubby said he thinks the republican's screwed up in Wisconsin. He said he thought public opinion would turn against them now. He thought they should have just waited the democrats out and let them sweat it out in IL. Comments and keep in nice :) it's late and I don't feel like getting yelled at.
I see you are in Michigan. The problem is you are surrounded by leftists parasits so “public opinion” in your area is negative.
Also, the “opinion” around the country that would agree with your husband are in papers or on TV that lack readers and viewers.
When we here in the South watch these whiney unions libs on TV we collectively flip the bird and tell them to go F themselves.
Most of the voting public have short memories. Even if it was a political mistake, which I do not believe it was, it will be forgotten by the next time the news cycle rolls around. These guys were just elected. They were right to forget the polls and do what was right. If Wisconsin’s economy is good when Walker is up for reelection, collective bargaining will be a distant memory.
Last Dakotan nailed it. Your husband is buying into the left’s mythological “public,” a cardboard prop that somehow always seems to favor them no matter what. The reality is, the “public” consists of that broader swath of Wisconsins generally citizens living outside the mind-control zones of Madison/Milwaukee. Those people got involved because they had had enough of the brats ruining the future for their children and grandchildren. And they have not moved off their driving principle just because a few slanted polls and few noisy protesters are trying to create the impression they don’t exist. They do exist, they are as engaged as ever, and come any recall votes or regular elections, they will be out in force, much to the disappointment of the union cronies. No, you may confidently tell your husband to turn off the TV and do the math. Walker is positioned to win big on this with the “public” that counts, the ever more conservative electorate of Wisconsin.
Unions have been very good focusing on the Public sector to increase their numbers and negotiating outstanding contracts for unionized workers. Now we have the problem where government employees earn more in salary, pensions, don't pay for health insurance. The real kicker is that government employees cannot be fired for non performance or a host of other reasons.
An example is our school systems are failing (82%) of public schools. What we hear as the reason is that there is not enough money provided by the taxpayer. We spend more on educating students that any other country.
This is disgraceful and only one area controlled by unions. At one time unions help the worked and managed contracts with the company. That has changed, unions current mission is to suck this country dry not for the benefit of worker but for the benefit of the Democratic and Socialists parties.
“Public notice of every meeting of a governmental body shall be given at least 24 hours prior to the commencement of such meeting unless for good cause such notice is impossible or impractical” Wis. Stat. 19.84(3).
It was time to quit playing this dance about are the Dems coming back, the media is never going to put any pressure on the Dems and the Unions will keep funding their stay and keep playing this game of we’ll come back and then the Unions say No. You have to move the ball, staying in suspended animation when you have a substantial majority is not an option, the Dems were trying to take as much time off the clock without running a play. That’s over
Walker and the Pubs need to get out that FDR, George Meany, Harry Truman were against it and Jimmy Carter repealed JFK’s collective bargaining for Federal Employees. Mitch Daniels did it Indiana 5 years ago and it’s one of the more healthy fiscal states right now.
They need to say look does anyone think the Federal Employees are treated poorly because they don’t have collective bargaining.
They were scheduled to be in session all week so there was notice of committee hearings. The Democrats chose not to show up, don’t see how the 24 hr notice when they have been trying to pass the bill for 3 weeks has been violated.
Everyone in the country who has been paying attention knew.
That’s what Coulter said, really the PR part of the job most Republican officials are not good at it, I don’t admire Chris Christie on some of his positions but he’s about the best Republican dealing with the press I’ve seen recently.
The fact the State will no longer collect union dues and make the teachers write out checks is the Trojan Horse in all this.
Remember how we all knew once Obamacare passed that it would be hard to repeal, since once the sheeple got a “free” benefit, they’d never give it up?
Well wait until next month when every teacher in Wisconsin has a $100 raise in their paycheck because the union dues weren’t taken out. That will have an impact.
Walker and the GOP knew that if they were going to reduce employee benefits, they could do it on the back of these union dues and the employee wouldn’t have any less take home pay. Pay $100 more a month for your pension and healthcare. Save $100 a month in Union dues that aren’t collected off the top.
Let’s see how this plays out.
Your husband is wrong because a delay is what the Democrats wanted. They were already ramping up for recall campaigns against enough Republicans to take back control of the Wisconsin government. They were hoping to delay long enough to get the campaigns in gear so that the Republicans would cave.
Oh, and the recall efforts were being directed from Chicago.
Dear Ms Lady’s Hubby,
Hi ya’ll! Come on down here to the South, sit on the porch a while, sippin’ some sweet tea, and in short time you’ll see why we laugh at stupid stuff those silly union teachers and there union thug buddies pulled. No, public opinion will not be against the gov. The media will tell you it is...they’ll have Norma Ray resurrected before the weeks out. Do you have a porch? How ‘bout just some sweet tea? It ain’t over yet.
Sen. Fitzgerald’s Statement: We have confirmed with the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, the Legislative Council and the Legislative Reference Bureau that every item in tonights bill follows the letter of the law.
The people of Wisconsin elected us to come to Madison and do a job. Just because the Senate Democrats wont do theirs, doesnt mean we wont do ours.
Republicans are always “Damned if they do,damned if they don’t “these days.Don’t matter what they do,the media will be chewing them to pieces like piranhas that they are.
I’ll take some a that sweet tea if you have a little mint you can throw in with it ;)
After reflecting on it and a good nights sleep :) I think it’s possible that the Republican’s should have done this even sooner. They should have given the dems 24 hours to get back or they were going to vote on what they just voted on. Instead of waiting several weeks. Which I can see why they did really. They were playing out all the options, I think and this is just a guess. To show they were being completely reasonable and fair. And it was the dems and the unions that were acting like 2 year olds having a tantrum. Which personally, that’s what it should look like to any reasonable person.
No, they didn’t, and it’s “Republicans”, (plural) not “Republican’s” (possessive).
I was thinking about this yesterday. Before the vote last night. At that time, I had a serious feeling that we were going to lose this because the longer that standoff went on, the dems were able to display the weakness of republicans. I think Walker surprised them by doing what they never figured the pubbies would have the guts to do.
Now the dems and the unions just have all made themselves look bad like bullies. It also makes the fleebaggers look like fools. It would have been far better for them to stay and make a big deal about voting against the bill.
Fighting the left and their union minions are going to take steel spines. Calling their bluff and calling them out is the only way you can win.
The only thing we could do much better is learn to get the message out about why public sector unions are bad for the taxpayers of America. We are terrible about explaining in simple terms what we are doing and why. We have to give people a picture of the outcome and why this will save their state. We need to use examples of how these unions are taking too much for themselves at your expense.
