PHIL Collins has quit music for good after developing hearing problems, a dislocated vertebra and nerve damage in his hands from his 40-year career playing drums.
The Easy Lover hitmaker also thinks people are sick of him and his music.
Its a good time to stop, said the star, who has sold more than 150 million records.
I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think: I cant be in the same business as this.
I dont really belong to that world and I dont think anyones going to miss me. Im much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely.
Im not worried about not being able to play the drums again, Im more worried about being able to cut a loaf of bread safely or building things for my kids.
Collins who is in a relationship with newsreader Dana Tyler and has been married three times, to Andrea Bertorelli, Jill Taverman and Orianne Cevey recently insisted he has no plans to ever tie the knot again.
Shes a very sweet girl, sweet lady but Im not going to get married again, he said. I think Im better off on my own.
Wow.
Heavy song.
LOL.
That's a great music video. Thanks for posting the link.
But I'd say Clapton did a bit more than have a cameo. His screaming guitar makes the song IMHO.(But, 'Clapton is god') . And If I'm not wrong Dusty Hill from ZZ Top is in the background on Bass.
and I love the last line from the Producer's Assn't: "Eric gave a week's notice." LOL
Thanks for the correction.
[I couldn't get a good look - old eyes]
Me too CL.
Enjoy your retirement 'Phil'.
Your friend,
Eric Clapton

Towards the end of his career, Phil got too "middle-of-the-road" and politically correct for my tastes but during that 1976-85 period, whether solo or with Genesis, he was good. Very good.
"Easy Lover" was one of the first songs I remember hearing on the radio after my discharge from the Marine Corps in 1985 and it always brings back great memories of freedom, being young and having my whole life still in front of me.
Re: “In The Air Tonight”, I’ll always recall Stewie’s version in the FG’s parody of “Poltergeist”

btw, my buddy, Steve Hoffman, is re-mastering the album - should be sonically amazing!
Yep, “Throwing” is a deeply insightful song of the pain of a relationship ending that was “meant to be”. I lost my wife (literally, the-girl-next-door) to breast cancer at 28 - truly a love that meant to be and probably why I connect to that song so strongly.
On the link above with the Lara Fabian duet, her singing the last verse is filled with so much emotion and how she holds the word “after” is truly goosebump time for me.
helluvan opus
I’m surprised more musicians don’t have problems with their hearing.
I listened to my cousin do some drumming once, it was too loud for me to stand and I quickly booked, my ear felt funny for a couple days afterwards.
Division Bell was at Joe Robbie...first show of the tour...they had a blimp flying around South Florida the entire week of the show. Epic rain storm during opening night.
“Heat” is definitely in my Top Ten list. One of the coolest movies ever and when Val Kilmer still cared about his craft.”
No more steaks in the freezer.
This man will be 60 this year and doing this near the end of a 2.5 hour show...

Mine was Momentary Lapse... ‘87, I think. That’s pretty cool, both shows in the driving rain.
So what are you talking about?
The world is getting stranger and stranger, but I’m not.
Phil looks like our nerdy programmers in IT.
