I thought so, too! :) Perhaps a nice place for a picnic!
This winter I discovered the “Eat This, Not That” books. It’s a series. I was eating so well. I even worked out 20 minutes a day on my BowFlex and 20 on the stationary bike. I didn’t lose one pound!
I was eating greek yogurt, one of the foods that are good for most people, and suggested in the books, but for me yogurt was a daiy and so it was killing me.
I was eating eggs, a great source of protein and omegas, yet for me, it was another allergen.
I really really tried to be healthy and lose weight. I had no idea that many of the foods I was eating were hurting me.
The first 3 days I got rid of the allergens, I lost that 5 pounds. Had to be water weight. Now the loss is slow and better that way.
Heck, just cutting out cheese and butter will save me a gazillion calories in a year! Oh how I loved to cook and bake with butter. Now I am getting used to frying and saute-ing in olive oil. It’s OK, but you can’t beat butter for taste.
The Eat This Not That books are cheap. I have several of them. One is geared toward the supermarket (Supermarket Survival Guide), one for restaurants (Rest. Surv. Guide), one is “The Best and Worst Foods in America”, and one is just a general book including all the topics but none in depth like the first titles. Anywho, I got them on Amazon.com and they are about 12 bucks each and free shipping if you spend just 25 dollars.
I take the Eat This Not That Supermarket Survival Guide to the store, and the restaurant one out to eat. They fit in my purse. They’re colorful fun books. Best books I’ve bought in 20 years. Love them.
If I hadn’t done my allergen test, I’d have kept on feeling lousy forever. I thank God and my sister for helping me finally feel great. It’s been a long long time.
Time to make dinner. Got some good stuff at the store this morning.
Take care dear!
Yes, they tested me for chocolate. I am OK on the actual natural product of chocolate but I have to read labels because if it has milk products or butter or egg I can’t eat it.
I had Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate in the house, read the label, and had to give it away because it has 2 milk ingredients.
My sister already found a non-allergenic chocolate a long time ago for herself, so I ordered a case for myself. Yep, a case of 24.
It has no gluten (for her), egg or milk in it. Thank goodness I am OK on gluten. Sis has all my allergen problems plus the gluten. It is hard to find things without all the stuff she needs to avoid.
Whole Foods has the chocolate bars we can eat.
I ordered them from Amazon.com this week.
Brand is “Enjoy Life Foods”, bar is called “Boom Choco Boom Dark Chocolate Bar”.
I found that the Ghiradelli baking choc. chips I had in the house do not have milk ingredients or anything bad for me, so I can snack on those.
I admire you all you’ve told us. I think my problem is that I love food so well, maybe I just don’t have the willpower to give up all these delicious foods. I love milk even though I do drink 1% and I don’t drink a whole lot of it. I love grilled cheese sandwiches...there’s the cheese and butter. I am warming up leftover Spaghetti for my supper....and I’m sure there’s a million things wrong with that. If I were a young 48, maybe I could start over but I wonder if I could do it now.
What I will give myself credit for is that I’m honest....LOLOL! (and hungry).
I used to eat cheese everyday.
Milk, eggs.
If I was out of them, I’d have to get some.
Funny how after I stopped eating the few things I shouldn’t, I felt so good, I don’t ever want those things again. Ever. Well, OK, maybe I’ll miss the butter! LOL!
I cut butter out of my diet immediatally, and switched to olive oil.
I cut out fried foods and red meat - except for occasionally.
In one month, my cholesterol count dropped 60 points. The doc said he would not 'push' the RX and told me to continue what I was doing, and recommended the South Beach Diet.
I must say - I LOVE South'n cookin'. I grew up on it. I try to eat more healthy now, but every once in awhile, I *cheat* (like P F Chang's Calamari) or tempura at the Japanese Restaurant.
In the past year - I have not even used a pound of butter. (I have always avoided margarine - because flys will not TOUCH it - but they will eat poop!)
I figured if a FLY prefers POOP to marjorine, it couldn't be good for me! But, I now use marjorine (in small amounts) and feel fine.
(I avoid the poop, too!)
Well, we all know olive oil is much better for us. I have always wondered what is the shelf life of olive oil and do you store it in the cabinet. The chefs on t.v. occasionally use vegetable oil for certain things when cooking.
Yorkie, you’re so funny! Now they tell us that butter is better for us than margarine if you’re going to use it. I use both according to what I’m doing. But I don’t use much of either. By the way, the warmed over spaghetti was delicious.
LOL, I agree on the margarine.
I am now looking for something to substitute for butter, for when I bake. I used to love to bake cookies. I’d like something better than the old fashioned margarine.
I didn’t have much time to read the labels in the butter-margarine isle this morning. I bet there is some non-butter stuff I can bake with occassionally.
I wonder what Crisco has in it? Or if it’s just too unhealthy to use. Hmmm.
I will have lots of time after my spring season with the greenhouse is over in June, to look for substitutes for eggs and butter in cooking and baking.
I would miss making brownies (has eggs) and cookies (butter and eggs).
I bet there are websites devoted to allergen free recipes for different allergen free needs.
Hey, congrats on the awesome cholesterol drop!!!
Sigh..So beautiful, yorkie.

Grin..Thank you, Dubya
Oh, CP..I am just thrilled for you!
Thank you, Meg! I am so greateful to still have that special soul on this earth, (and in my life) that I wrote those words for.......
Last month I was so low, I prayed to God that I could experience Joy again someday. Well, He answered my prayer in a big way. I’m still a little giddy about the whole thing. I’m not used to feeling good.
I am so happy you do, too!
(((HUGS)))
Thanking God...I don’t blame you for being giddy about your miraculous improvement! It is truly something to celebrate.
Sorry this is so long in coming but had a busy day today.
Hope yours went well!
