Who And How
March 3, 2011

Whenever I read the Gospels, I identify with the disciples. Like me, they seemed slow to catch on. Jesus kept saying things like “Don’t you understand it yet?” and “Are you still so dull?” (see Mark 7:18). Finally, however, Peter “got it,” at least one part of it. When Jesus asked, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ” (8:29).

Peter was right about the “who”—Jesus—but he was still wrong about the “how.” When Jesus predicted His death, Peter rebuked Him for it. Jesus, in turn, rebuked Peter: “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men” (v.33).

Peter was still thinking in human ways of establishing kingdoms. One ruler would overthrow another and set up a new government. He was expecting Jesus to do the same. But Christ’s kingdom was going to come in a new way—through service and the sacrifice of His life.

The method God uses today hasn’t changed. Whereas Satan’s voice tempts us to gain power, the voice of Jesus tells us that the meek will inherit the earth (Matt. 5:5). To gain citizens for God’s kingdom, we must follow the example of Jesus, who set aside selfish ambitions, served others, and called people to repent of their sin.

We say we love humanity,
But can we really claim
A readiness to sacrifice
For them in Jesus’ name? —Sper

Tell me Mayor what do you think of the situation in Britain where a Christian couple are told they can’t adopt because their religious views of homosexuality are inconsistent with what the law wants. They were told that their personal views weren’t in question, only their religious views which seems silly since to a Christian, their religious views and their personal views are the same.

I didn’t know about that... It’s insane. Our personal and religious views are one in the same.

If Christians don’t wake up soon, we’ll be illegal and likely having to wear crosses on our clothes to identify us for punishment by the anti-Semitic and anti-religious mobs of leftist haters.

I reminded a Christian the other day that while God says to turn the other cheek, we need to remember he only gave us two cheeks, so there is a limit!

I also reminded him that Jesus told his followers to divide their garments and buy two swords. (for 12 men, two swords would give them the ability to defend themselves, but not be considered an armed gang.) It is the test of a Christian today to stand and defend his faith from those set on demeaning it or outright destroying it. The meek will be beaten down, our faith made a crime, and the Bible a forbidden book if we don’t stand up and tell the haters to shut up! In America we are free to be Christian even if the left don’t like it!

What a precious little girl and poem, love them both.

Also Billie, your graphic was darling yesterday. I was away part of the day and tired the rest of the day. Feel about the same today.

The more sun there is, all I see is more chores for me to do and don't feel like doing those either. I'm sure there will be better days to come....at least I'm hoping.

BUT I STILL LOVE SPRING!

I’ll be looking forward to your update, dearest Amy. Please give him a smooch on his unshaven cheek from me and all of us, or on his clean shaven cheek if he’s since shaved. Sort of a running joke. In his update, he sounded cheerful. Dear God and sweet Jesus, please hold him close and let his good cheer continue.
