NEWARK, N.J., A New Jersey woman says a New York City television station caused her thousands of dollars in emotional damage when it broadcast the wrong lottery numbers.
In a lawsuit against WABC-TV and its parent companies, American Broadcasting Co. and Walt Disney, Rakel Daniele of Fort Lee said she believed she was $250,000 richer and was "severely damaged" upon learning that was not true, The Record of Hackensack reported Saturday.
The suit, originally filed in New Jersey Superior Court, was transferred to federal court last week.
In legal papers, Daniele said WABC compounded the wrong by broadcasting the same incorrect numbers twice.
Emotional damage can add to stress levels long after the crisis is over
She’ll probably find a sympathetic jury and get a payoff, but she’s still a loser.
I wonder if she knows Mr. Richard Feder?
If I heard my winning numbers called twice over the telly I would have fallen prostrate to the floor with a stroke.
The only thing I ever won in my life was a cheap ash tray with a plastic elephant on it during a GOP fund-raiser raffle.
Leni
$1 for the one she thought won, and $10 for pain and suffering.
No surprise someone stupid enough to buy lottery tickets sues because she didn’t win.
She could save herself a lot of emotional issues if she just set fire to a stack of money. Same result, less emotions.
She thought that she finally had enough money to escape the hell that is New Jersey. Then her hopes were dashed, how can you even put a price on that?
This can be settled out of court with $11 worth of lottery tickets

Just another reason I would not/do not give Lottery tickets as ‘gifts’.
Just something OBSCENE about I “GIFT” you a $1.00 ticket and it turns out to be a $150,000,000 winner.
If you ‘offered’ me something I would probably refuse (at least the ‘decent’ me says that) but I would probably end up despising you and myself for the rest of my life....ha..
OTOH, if you ‘gifted’ me a $1.00 ticket and it hits for $150,000,000 I would clam up and leave the area...... HA.....
You should take that thing to the Antiques Road show! You never know... ;-)
"WABC's conduct was "beyond all possible bounds of decency, and were atrocious, and utterly intolerable in a civilized community."
That statement pretty much covers the MSM.
I don't have much sympathy for anyone who gets sucked in by bad reporting.
I don't think she deserves any monetary compensation.
But in this case, she can shoot the messenger.
She called my brother and me to say "X amount will go to charity...X amount will go to you two" etc...
About an hour later she called back to say that while she'd been sleeping in, my step-father had run to the store and picked up a "These are the numbers that won" ticket, so he could check their tickets that morning.
He had put the check ticket with the regular tickets on the refrigerator....
It was all pretty funny.
But for an hour or so......your mind just spins.
I have to say I’d be pissed too...
Similar thing happened to me in the 70’s when NJ started their first $10,000 scratch-off lottery. ($10,000 was worth something then) The guys I worked with did a masterful job altering a ticket and setting me up. LOL!!!
Funny thing happened.........I GOT OVER IT!!!!
Do not post that link again, it is full of viruses.

I won a cake in a cake walk once :D.....Ummm, yeah, I'm not going to Vegas any time soon. LOL
