A couple of them kept thanking their "union workers' in their speeches......

It was so bad, went to bed, heard the final wins (best actress, actor, film) from my bed, didn't even turn my head to watch it....Just listened.

I liked The Kings Speech....good choice as winner.

The appearance of Obama really was a big turnoff for me. Obama it seems has to get his “face” into everything. :(

‘The Hurt Locker’ was very popular with conservatives and (from what I heard) the military.

Thanks to the several of you who offered prayers and comments for My pup Josy. Here is a quick note on WHAT HAPPENED and an update.

Not much sleep last night. Josy NOT out of woods with “the issue” but on the surface seems better. (Josy is my rescue, 5 year old female German Shepherd)

Had a “stick accident” yesterday late morning. Some how a piece broke off & wedged her mouth OPEN & penetrated both the upper roof of the mouth & lower jaw & cut through the tongue. We were out in back yard & she was writhing in pain trying to the stick out, which she finally did. It was about 4” long & 1/2 in diameter.

There was blood all over the snow which was about a foot deep. It appeared something had been slaughtered on the spot.

She gagged pretty strongly for about 10 minutes, coughing up blood, mucus etc & then got some snow several times as if she was washing out her mouth.

In about 4 more minutes she was banging my leg with a stick in her mouth for me to throw but putting it down to gag. Her play instinct I guess is much stronger than her survival instinct

ER Vet indicated this is not a rare occurrence & there is little to be done (much like the paw pad cuts) other than let it heal. They don't do stitches & let the draining go naturally. She will gag a lot until the rather large wounds heal up.

Once the awards started she plopped down next to me (rarely does this when I am watching TV/movies) & stayed there. I could not get either dogs outside after awards as it was a very severe electrical storm for several hours with heavy rain & wonderful boom booms came through NE Ohio. We went out about 10 feet & they went back to door, pulling on leash to get in .

My movie comments will be in next post shortly.

For those interested here is a YouTube of her & her fur brother Toby

Good Morning

Sorry I could not participate on the thread , I did watch the awards. Thank you for the comments & prayers for my fur girl. Thank you also for all the great graphics, input, memory joggers and participation in general

My Awards comments

(dang, wish I could have done this all during show.. with all the long commercial times, it was ideal for Freeping.) I would have loved to have conversed with you on YOUR comments along the way. I am sorry!

I liked watching the awards mostly as I see most of the movies. The only one I did not see was The Kids are Alright.

Thinking that the two youthful hosts would have done much better with a better script. The material was awful IMHO. The older seasoned performers can ad-lib their way out of bad script/lines but these two did not do well with that.

I had seen a couple of the foreign movies & Javier Bardem’s flick was good but like Black Swan, difficult to watch showing a tortured person functioning in a dysfunctional situation.

The King's speech to me was a great movie but also was The Fighter, Black Swan, 127 hours, True Grit, Social Networking and I positivity loved Inception BUT realize it is not a one showing flick & most will turn it off as confusing, bad because of its complexity. I own the BluRay & saw it at theater 9 times & at my brothers in BluRay twice. I still am gleaning more depth from it. Nolan did a remarkable job.

There were several movies such as Winter Bone or The Town which were excellent but not the feel good type that many like. It is a look at a corner of our society/country that is not appealing to most of us.

Predict some awards NEXT year for Harry Potter just as in the Last LOTR flick Peter Jackson found a little gold for his efforts. The Special effect movies by in large don't do as well as the story line when it comes to awards

Last year I thought it was criminal that Hurt Locker won over Avatar or even any other movie. Yes, it was an interesting movie but there is no way to compare them.

The box office is the bottom line of review & check out the difference between Footlocker & Avatar for last year. This is who the REAL winner is but it is good to be honored & recognized by your peers in the industry. Unfortunately their is a lot of politics & black balling. Cameron is not liked nor are the Coen brothers particularly. There are others. I like their work .. yes I know Cameron is a jerk. Tim Burton's things always are great.

I guess I am partial to the big special effects, fantasy, type of movies. I do like adventure, (Salt, Unknown, Unstoppable types) but what I buy I suppose is the tell reflection of my genre favorites. It is overwhelming in my collections of the Harry Potter, LOTR, Narnia, Pirates Caribbean, Alice Wonderland, Avatar, Inception, etc.

I always enjoy the fashion and the hair (man many of the women really outdid in UGLY.). what was with the pony tails this year? Not even fashionable pony tail.. just like what I did with long hair when I was working in yard. Fun to see what the men do with dress, head & facial hair.

A wonderful welcome to the guests who participated in the Oscar thread.

Many of you were awesome in the great things you shared. Thank you. I added my comments to our existing ping list (above) and also an update on my fur kid Josy

If you are getting this, You are NOT on our Cinema ping list

Please let me know here or PM if you wish to be added.

It is NOT a heavy duty ping list & covers new releases, FUTURE releases (like Atlas Shrugged); events (death, major issues) in celebrity lives; and old classics as well as contemporary

I will also contact Pedro who does pinging to various things and give him the finalized list.

We had a huge list several years ago, but the numbers have thinned at FR.. people leaving or being banned. We know there are a lot of people who HATE everything Hollywood at FR -- BUT there are a lot of us who enjoy it & like to chat.

I think having Hallie Steinfeld in the “supporting” actress category was a mistake. She was clearly a lead actress, and was excellent.

yes. I wished she had won something.

Maybe an award for best new lead or supporting performer added?. One category for men & women - up to 6 to be considered

Actually I think the competition was tighter in lead than support actress this year

Studios will campaign for a Supporting spot when they feel the performer has no chance of winning in the leading category. And that was clearly the caes with Steinfeld.

Which is why Bill Murray is right when he says that “Best Supporting Actor and Actress??? Who really cares?”

IMO, it portrayed a spoiled, arrogant, amoral, avaricious genius creep and fellow greedy colleagues/enemies. And from what I’ve seen of the real Zuckerberg, I think he’s much the same. I couldn’t stand watching the brats.

I felt like I needed to take a shower after watching THE SOCIAL NETWORK.

Considering their politics, they should have called it, “The Socialist Network.”
