I'm disappointed that Apple didn't do anything different, but they, too, were in a spot -- they couldn't change anything without it being an implicit admission that something had been wrong.
So CR doesn't approve. Big deal, nothing changes...
It's the consumers who ultimately determine whether the iPhone4 lives or dies, not CR.
Consumer Reports lost all credibility years ago...
This is the same organization that actually rigged testing to cause the Suzuki Samurai to overturn (deflated tires to unsafe levels among other things).
The whole antenna NON-issue is obviously not what Consumer Reports says - because they also still gave it the highest rating. That makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. I have posted previously about my own attempts to cause the same “issue” with my iPhone 4... after finding illustrations online, and after many hand cramps, I was able to cause a slight reduction in signal strength...in the most un-natural grip I could make. Even then, I couldn’t get it to drop a call, or to degrade data use.
But all is a non-issue for 95% of iPhone uses - who use some form of bumper or case to protect their investment anyway...which completely nullifies any POSSIBLE signal/antenna issues.
I got a nice speck iPhone case from Apple (free) that I have used some. But the one I use the most - a semi-transparent TPU bumper case that cost me a whole $4 SHIPPED.
But hey - thats all ok.
