I watch it twice a year. A great movie. It’s really about Louey Long. Thanks for alert.

I just watched Destry Rides Again from a TCM DVR recording. A great channel TCM.

I DVR’d Destry, then made a DVD on my recorder. Did that last week.

I can’t help it but every time I see Broderick Crawford the phrase 10-4 comes to mind. That old Highway Patrol series.

Louey Long?

Don’t you mean his brother Dewey Long?

Think I’m going to need a bigger room to hold my TCM DVR library. And I’m on my third DVR, with TCM classic movies wearing them out.

"ten fow, ten fow... twenty-two, two-fifty, bye."

Along with those endless location shots in L.A.

"Highway Patrol..."

Thank God for Turner Classic Movies, the one island of sanity in the commercial desert of almost basic cable. It's become a strain watching Alec Baldwin once a week, though it's also become a welcome occasion for mocking his pretentious failure to make himself out as some sort of uncomfortable expert on Essential movies. He looks as seedy as Chairman Mao when he met with Nixon in '72.

Great movie, all the way through.

Thanks for the ping. I’m not sure if I’ll be home, and I don’t have a DVR. It must be time to get one.

I’ve always thought Baldwin’s hosting of “The Essentials” is some kind of inside joke, since he hasn’t appeared in anything remotely resembling a film classic. Baldwin’s best film was “The Hunt for Red October,” which was released more than 20 years ago. Of course, he promptly decided he was too big for the Jack Ryan franchise, so Harrison Ford happily cashed those paychecks for the next two decades.

Baldwin is living proof that performers with the right connections (and politics) can keep getting work in the entertainment business.

Right, Thank God for TCM! Sunday night last "Taxi Driver" - not a wasted scene in that entire film. *****

Last night: "Amadeus" ***** - Great movie.

Next Saturday: "Grand Prix" ***** Frankenheimer's classic standard for cinematography of which all action movies must try to emulate!

I hope Mr. Soetoro isn't planning on speechifying any time soon. . . . I'll have to miss him!

Most of what I’ve copied to DVD has been Westerns off the Westerns Channel. My old DVD recorder doesn’t work for HD, but it’s fine for this kind of stuff. Now with my DVR, I can schedule a recording, then play and put on a DVD at my leisure. I have a cabinet in my office with all my DVD and CD collection. But it’s about full so I’m going to have to find another solution as well. What to do, what to do...
