The Republican leader of the Wisconsin state Senate says there will be no vote on a bill taking away union rights for government workers until Democrats return.

...

A handful of Republican lawmakers in Wisconsin seemed to hold one of few paths to a compromise that could end a high-stakes stalemate over union rights that has captured the nation's attention.

By not taking forceful action, the R’s are allowing the D’s to shut down the government and take it hostage.

While it is possible non-action on the central issue may make some sense from a political perspective, the R’s at the least have a duty to proceed with business and pass other legislation, CCW, eligibility, etc, if for no other reason than to make the D’s absence unbearable.

There had damn well not better be a compromise here. There is too much at stake for other states nationwide who have the same problem with public employee unions.

Republicans there need to understand that the Tea Party’s axe has two blades and it swings in both directions.

And they need to understand NOW.

I think it started going downhill when Steve took over as publisher. I liked it a lot better when his dad, Malcolm, was at the helm.

Careful folks—Lots of similar reports in the last couple of days have turned out to be false. The MSM is doing everything it can to demoralize us and support the union scum. Regrettably, Forbes has gone to the dark side—I recently canceled a 30+ year subscription with them.

This is what gives me hope; that the Liberal Media is simply lying to us (shocking!) in order to demoralize us. In either case, Governor Walker should do what he can unilaterally: FIRE THE STRIKING TEACHERS!!!

If he had a pair, that would be on the table. As a matter of fact, this could be an excellent opportunity for him to begin dismantling their public school system... let those who know how to teach and discipline, and who aren't in it for the paycheck, fill the gap.

Oh, there are plenty of fun things to do while the Democrats are out.

Like a voter ID bill. And a “clear the voter registration roster” bill. And maybe a shall-issue concealed carry / castle doctrine / make my day bill. I’m sure y’all can think of others.

When we free the GOP from the strangle hold of country club elitists like Newtie, Barbour, Daniels, Boehner, Lott, McConnell, Graham, etc.

Oh, there are plenty of fun things to do while the Democrats are out.

Indeed, the Republicans should take advantage of the Democrats' absence to pass legislation the Democrats hate that nonetheless stays well clear of any 'fiscal' issues the Democrats could tie up in court. They could pretty easily make it politically untenable for the Democrats to stay away.

From what Gov. Walker has said, the alternative to the bill the RATs fled over, is to impose substantial layoffs in order to achieve the same savings. Does anyone know the timetable for the need to do the layoffs? It seems to me that that’s the point where the RATs really go into the dumper if they are still “out of town.” This idea that the unions have that it’s better to lay off than to compromise and keep everyone on the payroll will eventually sink them.
