The media is spread alot of different info on this, here is the question, I keep getting this line, which doesn't sound right. That the previous RAT governor, actually left a surplus, or was projecting surplusses up until 2014, and that the (obviousley evil kitten drowning puppy killing) Republican, gave tax breaks to out of state companies like wal-mart thus creating the budget deficit.....
This garbage, is obviously being passed in the mainstream media, and keeps getting repeated, also that the payroll costs, or union costs to Wisconson make up a small meager part of the budget, and that its actually the entitlements that are causing problems.
Does anyone know where I can get the actual facts on this, and explain where the hell the media is getting its numbers from, and what are the true numbers and facts ?
That story has been de-bunked, it is not true. Oh, the tax incentives for businesses does has not gone into affect yet, they have in no way contributed to the present deficit.
I believe you can find the factcheck report for the Milwaukee Journal reports that the surplus story was a hoax.
Scott Walker just became Governor a month ago. Democrat Jim Doyle was governor the previous 8 years. Obviously the financial situation has not changed in just a few weeks.
A surplus or $3.6B deficit...it doesn’t seem like it should be too hard to divine the truth between two such divergent figures. An open mind and a good search engine ought to do the trick.
That is a LIE, as this 19 November 2010 Milwaukee Journal article clearly shows:
Madison Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle’s administration on Friday told Republican Governor-elect Scott Walker that he would have to cope with a $2.2 billion deficit in the state’s upcoming two-year budget, but this brighter-than-expected forecast contained more than $1 billion in hidden pain.
To arrive at the favorable estimate, the Doyle administration’s estimate assumed that Walker and lawmakers would make spending cuts that have yet to actually happen - two more years of state employee furloughs, no pay raises, a virtual hiring freeze and belt tightening in state health programs. Without that $1.1 billion in savings, the state’s projected shortfall rises to $3.3 billion - a significant increase over previous estimates that put the gap at between $2.7 billion and $3.1 billion.
The shortfall and the efforts to close it could affect everything from schools and health care to local governments and taxpayers.
The “revenue projections released Friday underscore what Governor-elect Walker has said for months - the state of Wisconsin is facing very serious budget challenges,” Walker transition director John Hiller said in a statement. “Further, we believe that the true budget shortfall is much higher than indicated by the projections released today.”
State Administration Secretary Dan Schooff defended the decision to use the rosier deficit figure by saying there was broad agreement on some future spending cuts such as not filling state positions - a position that Walker campaigned on.
“We don’t see any scenario where you don’t continue” those cuts, Schooff said. “I think the true number’s $2.2 billion.”

The Massive hole was HIDDEN by the Dems in an election year using budget trickery, like “Assuming” that Republicans would make undislosed cuts” (ie., THEY LIED...)
The “Surplus” is based on a Jan. 31 memo to legislators on the condition of the states budget, where the Fiscal Bureau determined that the state will end the year with a BALANCE of $121.4 million. Note, not a SUPLUS, but a BALANCE.......
Misdirection and lies by the Democrats. WHODATHUNKIT....
Wisconsin has a total state debt of $17,971,519,547 when calculated by adding the total of outstanding debt, pension and OPEB UAALs, unemployment trust funds and the 2010 budget gap as of July 2010...

The state faces a $3.6 billion budget shortfall over the next 2 years
Previous RAT left a 3.6 billion deficit. He took billions out of dedicated funds to use paying general funds operations.
What you are hearing on the national news is mostly bullsh1t. they can’t cover the story accurately because it goes against the liberal template. They are nucking futz.
Four governors got an A Mark Sanford of South Carolina, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Seven were awarded an F...Jim Doyle of Wisconsin, Bill Ritter of Colorado, and Chris Gregoire of Washington...
To find out how the governor in your state did, go here.".
ALL of TV and the news media lie. The state has 98,000 teachers and 350,00 teachers and state employees? It is not a very big state either? Those numbers are mind boggling.
Democrats and budgets. Oil and water. Even the national level Democrats hid the budget battle until after the election. They NEVER did pass one!
Yes the Unions had surpluses.
It was the rest of the residents that didn’t get any of that surplus.
How can there have been a surplus when Wisconsin owes Minnesota 60 million dollars of reciporcity (sp) taxes in 2009-2010. Wisconsin and Minnesota have bedroom communities whereby people from either state can work in the other state but live in a different. the taxes are owed from the individual taxes back to the state of the persons residence. For example someone lives in Stillwater, Minnesota but works in Wisconsin, and someone in Wisconsin works in St.Paul, Minnesota. the employer collects the taxes and lo and behold the taxes are paid, but the state must pay the other state for the taxes.
Wisconsin has this with colleges that are nearby Minnesota LaCrosse, Stout, River Falls and Eau Claire have reciporcity for tuition too.
Thanks for posting that info.
There was a caller on Rush’s show and another on a local Austin talk show who were saying the current gov inherited a surplus. The SRM lies like a rug.
Jim Doyle was notorious for shifting funds around to accomplish his leftist goals, regardless of budgets or the legislature.
An example was a building fund for the UW-LaCrosse. As I understand it, there was finally enough money in this fund to begin work on new buildings. However, then Doyle had other needs for the money and simply found a way to transfer it from the building fund. Too bad, UW-L!
My information is gleaned from employees at the university. Hopefully someone has details. I am sure this happened with other dedicated funds, as well.
Walker needs to keep harping on “the mess they left”, just as the left does about Bush.
