Then fire the apparently cynophobic cop who shot a lab. He ought to be laughed off the force.
ML/NJ
For Labs that would be a posture to start some serious PDA.
Cops shooting Labs are truly Dog/Lab retarded. They need to go to re-education camp or be sent out to scoop poop in the public parks for a year or two.
don’t cops carry pepper spray any more?
I can't believe a Lab has "menaced" anyone, anywhere, ever!
I don’t believe this.
What I don’t believe is why the officer shot a lab. That doesn’t make sense.
“Pet dog running loose? Fine the owner for violating DC leash laws. Don’t shoot the dog.”
Labs are an INCREDIBLY docile, loving breed. I bet this “cop” just wanted to show he had the balls to work for the BATE, where at EVERY raid, the first thing they do is KILL ALL THE PETS! Remember Waco! Remember Ruby Ridge!
I can’t even imagine what an “aggressive posture” is for a lab. It’s just not in their DNA. The closest thing would be getting ready to pounce on a ball.
I swear sometimes cops just shoot dogs because they can.
The poor dog would have probably licked the cop to death.Labs are a gentle dog.Not known for attacking anyone that I recall.
As it’s been said earlier they should have called animal control and took the dog into custody then cited the owner for not having the dog leashed.
Shooting of dogs has to stop unless their is No choice, such as the dog is rabid,or actually attacking someone. Then I could understand shooting the animal.
What has happened to our country? A lab? The only breed worse than shooting a lab would have be be a collie.
What? Timmy’s in a well? Show us boy! Blam!!! Blam!!!! Blam!!!! Bad Dog! Did you see that aggressive posture? Jeez!
To serve and protect, my ass.
Somebodies in trouble now. From my recollection Fox Hall is a very exclusive place to live.
If my dog was shot for no good reason, I would do three things. I recommend this to anybody who has this experience.
1. Be sure of your rights when it comes to talking about the police, so you’re not at risk of being arrested or harrassed by cops..
2. Everytime you interact with them, remind them of what they did to your dog. Whatever they say, make sure the response you give them personalizes it for you.
3. If you’re walking with somebody and you come across a cop, follow the cop with your friend, not interacting with the police officer, but talk with your friend so the cop can hear about your experience.
This is so you can have fun with this unfortunate experience, not because you can reasonably expect the police to learn anything from it.
The dog is expected to survive.
It doesn't excuse the cop's overreaction, but I'm happy that it looks like Russell will live to "menace" some more.
I have never, ever seen a Lab "menace" anybody. My best friend from teenage-hood has always had Labs. The most "menacing" any of them ever got was when they greet me with tails going like windshield wipers and pin me against the door so they can lick my face.
More moronic JBTs killing family pets.
A Chocolate Lab displayed “aggressive behavior”?
TOTAL BRAVO SIERRA!
(But just wait for the FR coterie of “cops can do no wrong and all dog shootings are justified” ignoramuses to show up and put their worthless two cents in.)
The photo with the article clearly depicts a savage animal with a truly ferocious countenance...
Seriously, it is nice that it appears the dog will survive.
And I hope the officer is NEVER able to live this down with his colleagues, and that he is shamed in to having to find another job.
I am glad to read that the dog is expected to survive. I hope the officer’s career is dead, however. I do not like to contemplate my reaction as a dog owner if Russell was my dog.
I wonder how many T-shirts you could sell that had “My Dog Was Shot By A Cop”? Or, “My Dog Survived A Cop House Call”?
