So how many people do you know who are sick with the latest round of cough/flu? And have been for weeks, if not months? About a third of my friends and family are. I was, but I catch just about everything - and then recover quickly thanks to an overactive immune system (which has problems of its own).
So let's go conspiracy theory here: Are we in the middle of a bio attack? After all, I cannot remember when this many people I know spread around the US and two continents were sick the same way this long. But decades of vaccinations - with antibody factors that may be passed down generationally - may be providing a defense.
So what happens when this bug goes global? Oh, wait, it has - it's just not being reported well.
Thoughts?
Me - two weeks. Almost everyone I know has been sick over the past few weeks. Lingering cough for those who have “recovered”.
I’ve had a bitch of a cough since Thanksgiving...my wife almost as long.
I’m a smoker, but I’ve never had one this long. More people than usual at work have coughs.
I was thinking I’ve maybe got whooping cough.
I don’t take flu shots.
me. one week nearly. i am never sick. had my flu shot too. just about everyone i know has had this thing!
I had it from Thanksgiving weekend through mid-January. I’ve never coughed so much in my life.
The son of a good friend of mine had one of the few CDC confirmed cases of swine flu. (He pulled through fine.) Pretty sure I got it from him. I was sick about a day, then was just fine.
This bug got me for three days. NOTHING gets me for three days. And I still have an occassional cough and some viral (clear vs green bacterial) snot.
This isn’t normal.
Two friends living in the same house, but eating in different places both got a severe attack of the runs. Anything like that going around? Mid-Atlantic region.
I agree. Hopefully they made a weak batch and we’ll just develop an immunity for the next one.
This is my box of Kleenex. There are many like it but this one is mine.
I teach and coach, and no I am not a member of any damn union. I have had players and students out with the flu. No conspiracy here. My son, who is in the same school where I teach had the flu shot and he is healthy as a horse. It is the flu. Just thank the Lord that it is not the same strain that we had in 1917-1918.
I live in the South and lots of people are still talking about Corexit and the Gulf Oil Spill. I wonder if this is related.
No personal experience with an abnormal stomach bug. One bad handshake, touched doorknob or fork, etc can spread a stomach bug between housemates.
This is a respiratory bug. Almost certainly airborne.
I’ve had an irritating cough....but, I think it’s the new kitten! On the other had...lots of people around me keep getting sick...but, it IS flu season...take your Vitamin D3 folks!!!
What did your doc say you've got?
Talked to a friend from southern Illinois & she said she is at 5 weeks with it, calling it more of a sinus infection but she also is tired & weak from it.
My chiropractor told me she has patients who have had it 6 weeks or more and on different meds, none have helped much.
Everyone I know has been sick with this thing. It’s over two weeks you are ill. You think you are better, then you suddenly relapse. The relapse hits as hard as the first wave, in some cases harder.
It seems to be marked by a cough or bronchitis. Some people have huge amounts of phlegm. It also seems very virulent - races like wildfire. You can stop over someone’s house, walk right back out the door, and it seems in a few days you’ve got it.
I know someone who it hit so hard the first day he ended up unconcious on the floor. They had to call 911. Young kid.
To be blunt, I think it is a WORSE strain of the 1917-1918 bug. But the “science” reporters focus on how the germs evolve or are engineered. They ignore that we’re the most evolved life form on the planet, which by definition means our immune system evolves faster, and the “evil” vaccine companies do a decent job of staying ahead of the flu.
Also, even if you weren’t immunized, carriers around you were, which would degrade the pathogen. Or your immune system is just stronger.
Either by man or by nature, there’s someting NASTY in the air...
Everybody started getting sick about the same time the birds started dropping dead — about two weeks before the USDA admitted it had dumped some stuff into the clouds to kill the birds.
Temperature was 104 at one point and I was out of work for 5 days even after taking tami-flu right away.
This was the worst case of flu ever and I catch it almost every year due to (probably) the 2 "crumb-crunchers" running around here at home. One would think a simple yearly shot would be in order yet I continue to resist.
As for the conspiracy theory - in the height of my symptoms and being heavily medicated, I assumed that my wife was poisoning me but the bio-attack you mention is plausible.
Or it could be that I just have small children at home and also fly for work frequently - how can anybody really be sure? :)
