FAIRBANKS, Alaska, The Alaska Department of Fish and Game said biologists were unable to remove a rope from around a moose's neck despite employing a special wildlife stun gun.
The department said biologists had the stun gun specially shipped to use on the Fairbanks moose, which has had the rope around her neck since she was pulled from the Chena River Jan. 2 by people who saw her fall through the ice, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported Wednesday.
The biologists said they attempted to stun the moose from 25 feet, the device's maximum effective distance, but the animal seemed unaffected.
"We got a couple shots at her, but we couldn't get both probes to stick, probably because of her thick winter hair," biologist Don Young said.
The team decided to allow the moose to wear the rope, which does not appear to be hindering its ability to breathe, eat or drink.
"She's not inhibited by the rope," Young said. "We watched her feed and it doesn't bother her. The rope is not hanging up on anything. It tracks right between her legs. It's a pretty short rope."
Stuned by a beeber?
I skinned my first moose about 12 years ago, they have some really tough winter hide, its like trying to cut a very thick pile of dense carpet.
My son is stationed in Fairbanks, he recently sent me pics of a bull and a cow moose walking down the main road.......they are HUGE!!!
If that came off a moose I want to see his space ship!
We are from GA, so going to AK was a huge change of pace! I kept asking if he had seen any wildlife and to get me a pic if he did. Here is what he wrote with the moose pics
“well Mom i have done one thing on your wish list.. as you can see from the pictures i tagged you in i got you up close pictures of 2 moose that were right outside #####’s house.. just so you know me and ######## risked our lives and #####’s new 2010 mazda (we used as a shield in case they charged) to get these pictures. we will look for a wolf next but not making any promises. hope you enjoy the pics love you”
Alaskan moose have a hide that is so thick it protects them in -50F temps, literally 2 inches of super dense hair.
something wrong with this story. Here’s what a stun gun will do:

Call Sarah Palin. That moose will be out of that rope in 2 seconds and on his way to Canada as soon as he sees her.
These guys must have a death wish to be 25 feet away from a moose, then do something that’s likely to piss it off.The average moose is about equal in strength to 10 or 12 NFL linebackers and a whole lot quicker.
Feets don’t fail me now......
I’m so glad there are no moose where I live.
Typical government reaction to a situation. Elevate it to an emergency, spend thousands of dollars on a quick fix. When the quick fix fails, declare it wasn’t a problem after all.
Then go get some donuts.
.....bit my sister
