E-books aren’t that big

Beg to differ. A couple of months ago, Amazon sold more ebooks than paper books.

Actually Amazon sold more e-books than HARDBACKS, not than all paper books. Though many news sources misquoted it the same way you did. And Amazon never actually gave numbers so we don’t know if hardback sales dropped at all or if it was all e-book climb, and they never gave any further word on whether or not that trend is continuing.

People are transitioning to e-books very, very quickly.
That’s the next (actually, current) boom.

A word to the wise.
Try to return a wrong download from Amazon, due to a bad link. If you can't double check the title image save yourself the aggravation!

Regular books don’t have to be downloaded from some central source, for which you have to have an internet connection and a credit card.
Not entirely accurate. Many of my most valuable books in the last couple of years are books written before multiculturalism and politican correctness. Thousands of them are downloadable for free from a variety of web sites. History and philosophy are specially valuable.

...true I like the old-style books, which no one controls for me or knows about. They’re my steadfast friends.
I suppose that all depends on whether your passion is appearance or content.

How do you read e-books when the power is off? You can’t (at least, not for long).

21 to 30 days is not long enough?

My understanding is Kindle will allow a temporary transfer of a book, say several weeks, for lending. Reselling is another whole subject....

Not all books; and the ones that do, limit it to once, for 14 days, during which time the book owner loses access.
Entirely at the individual publisher's discretion.

The plan needs more work.

My favorite of the chain stores. Much better selection than Barnes and Noble.

Sad to see this, but not surprised. Not many people read any more, and the ebooks are growing.

Bummer. I spent hours hanging out there reading the books. Made it much easier to figure out whether I actually liked the book before buying it on Amazon.com as Amazon.com only let you preview a few select pages online. Recently they rolled out Wi-Fi and that made it even easier to go book shopping as I could order from Amazon.com right from the store - very convenient.

You used Borders free wi-fi to order a book you're reading at Borders from amazon.com? No wonder they went belly up! You should have used Borders free wi-fi to order the book from borders.com. Doh!

I used to work for Borders. They would sell both--conservative and liberal. It didn't matter. As long it moved off the shelf.

Management was always a bunch of liberals, though. I remember that.

When we asked for the borders to be closed...we didn’t mean these ones.

Seriously, disappointed to see so many stores close, so many people lose jobs, and so many more vacant buildings. Hope & change. Ugh.

I've done that. Amazon refunded my credit card account within the hour. I just had to send them an email, explaining I accidentally downloaded the wrong thing.

No muss. No fuss.

Several near me are closing. Blockbuster is too.

I like going into stores.

We are fast becoming an isolated society with little contact with other people face fo face. It will be more controllable.

Technology is great for somethings, but it does have huge drawbacks that we are seeing now. One example is higher unemployment. Next thing is that we will not need so many people.
