Poor Bret Baier cant even get 90s sitcom celebrities to properly remember his name when they call him a scared asshole on national TV, which they are still on for some reason. Thus was his misfortune last night on Real Time, as Bill Mahers panel evaluated Bill OReillys pre-Super Bowl interview with President Obama and Matthew Perry chimed in to compare that interview to the one Bill Baier did with the president a while ago, which he found only marginally more acceptable.
Real Time isnt exactly a place for euphemisms, but last nights panel was particularly abrasive, even for the venue (save Princeton professor Cornel West, whose mom is watching and thus limited his vocabulary to only certain flourishes of implied vulgarity). Maher opened the discussion arguing that patriotism was less about guns and more about not belittling your president, and wondered incredulously what the response would have been to a similar interview of President George W. Bush conducted by Keith Olbermann. Author Hooman Majd went a step further and considered many of OReillys comments bigoted, suggesting that, were he in the presidents shoes, he would have kicked OReilly out of the house when he asked whether he knew about football. West noted that he felt the President managed to keep his cool because its really dissent among progressives that makes him angry people like us and that OReillys routine was expected. Still, Maher countered, OReilly leaned over like it was a bar and, in his eyes, was generally rude.

Interesting that you mention that - I was going to tune into Mr. Sunshine, but it conflicted with another show that I watch at that time. I was going to tape it this week, but, now (to quote Chandler Bing) “not so much”.
Maher opened the discussion arguing that patriotism was less about guns and more about "not belittling your president," and wondered incredulously what the response would have been to a similar interview of President George W. Bush conducted by Keith Olbermann. That remark is so offensive, I have to self-censor my reaction. That's a break for you.

Matthew Perry? Doesn’t ring a bell.
I predict this loser will be doing another stint in rehab soon.
This is your brain marinated in drugs.
I saw the pilot of Mr. Sunshine. It was acrid and foul, and felt like everybody from the writing staff on down was suffering from the worst hangover in history. I give the show about three more weeks, tops.
I got ya beat..never watched 1 single episode of that show who’s name escapes me.
Who’s Matthew Perry? And why would he lower himself to appear on Maher’s show?
Good find, ODH..
Maher, Perry et al are the worst form of pandering racists. They have to intellectually lower the bar for Mr. Soetaro. No ‘tough’ questions allowed; no ‘silly’ ones (like about footbal for interview preceeding the Super Bowl!?!). And no rude leaning either!
I watched it. O’Reilly all but asked Barry ‘do you want a pillow?’ It was superfluous at best. BOR is really, really starstruck by Duh Won...and even that fawning isn’t enough for the True Believers like Maher.
Brett Bari could snap pretty perry in two like a matchstick if he was so inclined. Fortunately for perry, Brett doesn’t care to play with fecal matter.
The only reason Perry isn’t in rehab is Charlie Sheen has the place booked for awhile. Lindsay can’t even get a room.
I watched it only because it was on in between something else I was watching, or I was too lazy to find the remote - I can’t remember. Either way, next week I’ll make the effort to find a rerun of Dog the Bounty Hunter or something classier and funnier than Mr. Sunshine.
...what children they are....pitiful!
I tried to watch the opener and it was simply awful! I gave up halfway through. It's one of the worst attempts at a TV sitcom I've ever seen and I've seen a lot because I used write a daily TV column. (I had to quit - no paycheck is worth enduring what I went through and Perry's new show is among the worst of the worst!)
Pandering for his new show like his opinion is worth anything.
Not that I’d watch either the O’Reilly interview of Obama or especially the Maher show, but the story seems to attribute the name screw up to Brett Baier rather than Bill O’Reilly.
So far as I can recall, O’Reilly is the only Fox person to do a one-on-one with Obama, back during the ‘08 campaign. Did Baier do one, too? I have Obama Interview Avoidance Syndrome.
The big question, really, is who cares what these people think, pro or con? Do people really watch Maher? He’s up there with Helen Thomas in the looks department, just too painful to look at. From clips, he doesn’t seem to have much in the intelligence sphere, either. But, hell, he gets paid to do whatever it is he does.
Yes. I believe he did one last spring with Baier. He might have done one around Thanksgiving too, but I'm not positive.
I've seen 2 or 3 of Perry's movies. The Bruce Willis movie was funny.

Perry, who did a 28- day program three years ago for a Vicodin addiction, flew to L.A. and checked into Marina del Rey's Daniel Freeman Hospital. Us says he was taking Vicodin, methadone and speed, and drinking.
