Good morning gardeners. My order of seeds and supplies from Jungs arrived this past week. Now all I need is a sign of when the weather here in east central Mississippi will warm up! We had snow this past Wed. about an inch and a half of heavy wet snow. The over night Temps have turned it into a layer of ice crystals that has not melted away yet. It is 15 degrees this morning and is supposed to go to 45 this afternoon which should melt the remaining snow then highs in the low 60s this weekend. I am waiting impatiently for the highs to get to 70 and remain there!

Where is “down here?”
I remember my dad teaching me how to graft when I was growing up on the farm. I could graft everything, except pecans. Never did get one of them to grow.
My dad had trouble with pears and apples, so I did those. He had one tree that had peaches, plums, and apricots on it. He also grafted roses and grapes.
Get HEIRLOOM seeds, and learn to save them THIS year...we have made it thru this miserable winter on tomato sauce we froze last fall. Thank G-d.

Way to go. Fruit tree grafting is half science and half art.
Yes, ma’am! :) I want to grow eggplants this year.
I have gallons of sauce I canned.
I decided that I would can what I could and freeze the rest.
Some stuff cans better than it freezes anyway.
I was in Wal-Mart the other day and picked up some pepper seeds on a whim.
Kind of glad I did.
Hello Trisham.. If you would prefer to have living plants, Territorial Seed Company in Oregon http://www.territorialseed.com/
has a schedule of delivery for several varieties of plants.. And, they always come in good condition.
I have used them exclusively for living plants.
Happy Gardening!
i got a couple of tomato plants there earlier in the week. now I just need to have weather warm enough consistently so that they can stay in the garden. we had frost the other morning and it was 51 degrees at 5pm yesterday. much too cold for around here...
There’s always the option of finding some mom and pop farm stand or nursery which sells plants.
Wal-Mart is actually the cheapest, but you can also find plants at Lowes and Home Depot.
Thank you!
Please add me
I learn something everyday on Free Republic. I didn’t know that the smell of a skunk was a sign of Spring. I will keep a lookout for the crocuses popping up. Don’t know if it is an “old wives” tale or not but Mom use to say the first thunderstorm of the Spring “woke” the snakes up.
I over heard two elderly Black women talking in our local Co-Op who were looking at tomato plants. There advice was that you have to wait to start planting in the garden 4 weeks after the last thunderstorm in Feb.
“wait to start planting 4 weeks after the last thunderstorm in Feb..”
I know some people laugh at those “old’ saying but I like to think that they came from the experience of people before us. Vast experience. They didn’t have weather from satellites etc... and came up with good advice. Just a thought.
I have seeds on order as well, like other freepers. We’ll be buying wood for raised beds and the materials for deer fencing. The deer population around here is through the roof, and last year our pathetic little garden was a smorgasbord for them. I guess deer aren’t that picky!
Send seeds? Befriend seeds? Just want 10 seeds?
Remember that old seeds may have reduced germination. (Although Ive had great luck with them. And for free, you can't lose...) If possible, list year and variety.
