Nothing to explain, politics isn't the only theme on Free Republic.

Most Freepers like cats and many of us are photographers.

Don't you like cats?

Before I get started, Pawn shops can be the worst place in the world to buy stuff unless you really know you stuff.

I have found a few bargains tho. I was in a shop in Savannah, GA and noticed a Leica binocular on the very top shelf. It was an 8X30 model in excellent conditon. I could barely see the price tag and it looked like $1200. It sort of made me mad because that probably was the selling price new but a used one should be quite a bit less.

I looked more closely and saw a dot between the 2 and 0. It was only $12.00. I began to get excited and sort of matter of factly looked it over and indicated I would take it.

The salesman sort of chuckled and I thought to myself, “he knows”, but he went ahead and wrote it up. As I was walking out the door he said, “you know that is really worth $75 don’t you?” I answered that I didn’t know that. They were really worth around $500.

I also once bought a nice Nikkormat EL with a mint 50mm f/1.4 lens. It was marked $15. I checked it out and again tried to remain calm as I paid the money. I suspect the owner thought it was a cheap knockoff trying to fool you into thinking it was a Nikon. Actually it was a Nikon.

I think it’s about showing off this amazing camera lens he picked up for a good price at a local thrift shop. Plus another opportunity to enjoy his very photogenic cat. ;)

The lens I used for this is a Minolta AF 50mm f1.4. I found it in a thrift store with a 5 dollar sticker. It cleaned up almost perfect. KEH sells the same lens for $300.00.

One of the reasons I like my Sony is that it will use almost any Minolta autofucus lens, and they are some of the best.

I’m not proficient in photography speak, but the focus/depth of focus (as I understand it) looks terrific! Just right on the face and then gradual softening going back. an enigmatic expression you caught there. : )

I don’t know about where you are, but in my area of Florida it’s 28 degrees tonight! Not seeing a lot of birds yet, but the days are getting a little warmer. We’re actually having a winter that’s lasting more than a couple of weeks.
