A Minneapolis woman has been cited for animal cruelty after postal workers say they discovered a puppy in a box she was mailing to Georgia.
Police say the box was taped shut and had no air holes. And, had it been sent for delivery, the box would have been put in an airplane's unheated and non-pressurized cargo hold. Sgt. William Palmer says the Postal Service told police the dog would have died.
Postal Service spokesman Pete Nowacki says post office employees became suspicious when the box fell off the counter after the woman left last Tuesday. Postal inspectors were summoned, the box was opened and the 4-month-old poodle mix was found inside, panting hard, but unharmed.
Nowacki said it was the first time he heard of something like this in his 25 years on the job.
"I'm dumbfounded," said Nowacki. " I can't see a way you look at this and think it's a good idea."

Oh, is that the pooch she tried to mail? He’s sure cute. Glad he’s okay.
Well played.
I do not like those commercials at all.
That said, the woman who was mailing the puppy ought to be locked up for the safety of the rest of us. She is obviously nuts.
This is really a stupid action.
That said, you can mail live baby chicks and other poultry. I live in a semi-rural area and I’ve been at the PO when the chicks, or the hatching eggs, come in. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. The people receiving the shicks have to pick them up at the PO. They are not delivered to the home by the carrier.
Mabe this stupid woman thought the puppy was a chicken!
Thank goodness the puppy was able to draw attention to himself. This woman should be fined and sentenced to work at a no-kill shelter for a year or until she realizes the horror of what she did.
Fifteen minutes in a closed coffin might help too.
Too stupid to live....
Fish and reptiles get shipped via UPS and FedEx but even they require next day air. Just wow.....
People who do not take responsible care of their own animals should not be trusted to have a role of responsibility over people.
I hope she has no minor children or elderly parents in her care.
Dumb, but not necessarily meant to be cruel.

She is so stupid. I would have faxed him. Much quicker than mailing...
Her facebook page (it is so over-the-top that I have to wonder if it is a hoax): http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001389916472&sk=wall
I would imagine the same rules apply to chickens as they do for all live animals through the PO. Peeps usually have special boxes with several large holes in them, too (although I don’t know if they use those for mailing, or just local transport). I don’t know that your scenarios involve totally wrapped & taped-up packaging as this dog had. Probably labeled, too.
“Champion has until Friday to make an appeal to animal control to get the puppy back. If animal controls says she cant have the puppy back, it will go up for adoption”
But here is the irony. She wanted to give it to someone else, so she would NOT really be the owner anyway very soon. Just ship it to them. I’m starting to think this is going into absurd territory again.
What is over-top about it?
(Seriously, I don’t understand all this Facebook/tweets nonsense, and don’t want to.)

Why I went down to the Minneapolis hennipan public aid office today and they told me I could not get my food stamp benefit because I recieved my august benefit in July instead of august how do that sound to my face page friends and I still don't have no food for august is that some f*@k up bullshit to hear?
UNQUOTE
She has a couple of pictures of Congressional Black Caucus and some funny posts about looking for a white man with phat pockets.
I agree, it is suspicious.
1) No food
2) No air holes
3) No water
4) a very limited spot in which it could relieve itself. Walking in its own waste for two days is NOT healthy for the dog, neither is the limited amount of air available to the pup.
Uniquely appropriate.
As others on this thread have mentioned, some people are too stupid to live.
