These days, no popular movement goes without an Internet presence of some kind, whether its organizing on Facebook or spreading the word through Twitter. And as weve seen in Egypt, that means that your Internet connection can be the first to go. Whether youre trying to check in with your family, contact your friends, or simply spread the word, here are a few ways to build some basic network connectivity when you cant rely on your cellular or landline Internet connections.

This is the voice of the people, and in a land where there is freedom of speech protected by the constitution, they would be guilty of violating the very document they are sworn to protect from, all enemies, foreign and domestic.Your point ? The thinking of the present WH occupant is an Executive Order trumps all.

I was part of a preparedness group awhile back, we talked about comms that used ham or CB to broadcast TCP/IP. We also talked about using spread spectrum, either multifrequency or frequency hopping.

Check the recent ARRL publications aimed a digital communications modes. My last copy was just starting to dabble in the world of software defined radio. That approach creates waveforms using DSP techniques and receives in the same way. The advantage is simplicity and stability vs a pure hardware approach.
WiFi modulation techniques are essentially spread spectrum. See direct-sequence spread spectrum. True frequency hoppers are a little more difficult. You'll find CDMA in use for GPS and your cellphone (on Verizon). What was once the domain of experimentation is mainstream technology today.

"Shouldnt a lot more data be able to be moved through VHF than 1200 baud? Digital TV is on VHF. Thats a lot of bandwidth. " 1200 baud is mandated by Amateur rules. It is what the FCC has written, it is the rule, rather than any band or frequency imposed limitation. Government imposed, they have their special interests to look out for don't you know.

Well, how hard would it be to come up with another system that is way way faster, and how fast do you think it could be?
And could it work like the real internet? It’s one thing for a transmitter to broadcast a 50,000 watt signal, but what about receiving? I know that in the old days, satellite internet had a phone to communicate to the satellite, and the satellite would download.
