Come on.
The later 1960's druggies who believed they could change the world through drugs, wild sex, and weird music came to realize they weren't changing anything -- at least in whatever sober moments they/we had.
Bur we still have the music!
Even though it was released nearly 51 years ago, I never get tired of hearing Stairway to Heaven.
The 70s ended in 1976. Disco died and the the hippies came down from their pretentious trips. Rock’n’roll came back to life, at least for a while.
Country Music has never been better than it is today. In the future George Strait (already is) and Kenny Chesney will be considered the two best Country singers EVER.
Rush is still GREAT! Not the same styles as the early years, but their playing is great. Perhaps BETTER in many ways.
Here’s a video of one of their new songs “Caravan” (played live in 2010). An early single from their upcoming album. (They talk about the new album as being epic and thematic. Probably not a 2112, but....) They are touring again this summer.

They certainly are.Iv'e been a fan of theirs since 'Farewell to Kings' own everything they've ever put out but have never seen them live.
Come to Australia you sods!
I don't listen to a lot of country-western music today, and maybe I don't hear enough to appreciate it, but when I hear it, it sounds more like rock than what is traditionally thought of as country-western music. I like to listen to cowboy songs and western swing from the 1930's and 1940's, traditional singers such as Hank Williams, Marvin Rainwater and Tex Ritter from the 1950's, and the "citybilly" sound of Patsy Cline and Dave Dudley from the early 1960's.
.
One’s opinion of the era of the greatest music depends on their age. If I ask what is the greatest pop song of all time and you give me your answer, I can then give a close approximation of your age.
BLACK SABBATH
The best. Especially the first three or so. & I ain’t never even done drugs.
I seem to recall a study of that, and the music in highschool (IIRC) is what sticks.
I recall a conversation with an old lady at church about my kid’s taste in music. She said “My parents didn’t like my music either.” I had a hard time imagining that and asked why. “I liked the Big Band music, and my parents it was Classical. They thought anything with brass was just noise!”
One word: Carpenters!
I played in a local band in the 80's and 90's doing a spread of music from classic country to Alabama, Eagles, to the oldies. Through that time the most requested song we did was House of the Rising Sun ... the Animals way with a Little Ventures lead thrown in....No Hammond B3 available.
Absolutely! All you mentioned were wonderful, just great, great musicians! Now what do the youngn’s have? Complete garbage, (and this ‘rap’ nonsense, good God!), I believe but I guess each generation feels their music is/was the best....I’ll still vote Big Band!
Give me my Brasilian pagode, salsa or classic rock.
Not even interested beyond that.
Back then you had real musicians. Studio time was a premium so you couldn’t have hacks in there who would require a lot of takes.
No.
stones, beach boys are pushing 50 years
Broke out the Victrola and the 78s eh?
Love it; just loaded Warrior as my ringtone last night.
That's a great song, but is it rock? Rock and roll is normally written in 4/4 time, but "House" is in 6/8 time.
