PITTSBURGH -- You see it all around town these days. The "Big Ben" signs gradually returning to the windows in working-class hillside neighborhoods. The No. 7 jerseys on the backs of suburban convenience-store clerks, grade-school teachers - even, strikingly, children.
Most prominently, you see it in how the discussion unfolds when talk turns to Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Instead of phrases like "criminal investigation," ''NFL suspension" and "bad example," the words today are back to what they were a couple years ago: Completed passes. Makes things happen. Leader.

I was talking to one of my sons about the playoffs. I commented about how football focused the Steelers must be, because they didn’t have a cheerleader team. He replied, “That’s because Ben Rothlisberger would attack them all.”
.... Rapist.
NFL poster boy. Too bad the Eagles didn’t make the SB... what a QB match-up that would have been.
“Just win, baby.”
Given that the Steelers sell the most merchandise to ladies of any franchise...and they even have a fantasy camp for lady fans...I think that they have plenty of cheerleaders.
"I was surprised," says Ray Skoff, 41, a lifelong Pittsburgher and Steelers season-ticket holder for two decades. "Behavior and attitude-wise, I believe he's done a total 180, how he presents himself on and off the field. It seems totally different."
That's my take on him. Maybe he's finally grown-up. One more screw-up off the field though and he's out. The Steelers are about football first and foremost. We don't want or need cheerleaders, primadonas, or off the field theatrics. The millions of Steelers fans that proudly wear the black and gold expect, no, demand that their team play hard and clean on the field and keep their noses clean off the field. NFL football, a game to some, but nearly a religion in Pittsburgh. :-)
The Steelers dumped a very good wide receiver, Santonio Holmes, after his fourth incident ... he ran out his redemption opportunities.
Affection returning? More like affliction returning...
“Steelers dumped a very good wide receiver, Santonio Holmes, after his fourth incident ... he ran out his redemption opportunities.” Of course, Holmes is black, and Holmes is one among a number of starting wide receivers. The city of Pittsburgh and its Steelers ain’t ever gon’ drop or trade a championship-winning, white quarterback on morals charges.
“I hope Ben stays clean, but I suspect one more transgression and he is gone”

Princess will get every opportunity to give you that transgression while in Dallas. Being a local, I can tell you
(and I’m being totally objective) Dallas has some of the best stripper bars in the US. I hope, for the sake of Steeler fans,
he waits to cut loose until after the game.
Yeah, that's sarcasm
But after what the Rooney family did to get Obama elected (and Obama's nice little payoff to Dan with the Irish Ambassadorship), I can safely say that I hate the Pittsburgh Steelers more than any other team.
They've always been a favorite of the sports media who coo over their glory years, but now they're the team of statism.
May Super Bowl XLV turn out like Super Bowl XXX (Steelers get pounded).
Man, I hate the Stillers. But, what am I stuck with - the Bungles and their cheapskate, in-bred owner and family. It must be good to be a Stillers fan. Bungles fans will never know the joy of hoisting the Lombardi trophy as long as the Brown family owns them.
“...demand that their team play hard and clean on the field...” Stop it you’re killing me!!!!!
Are you honestly saying Hines Ward is a “clean” player? Puh-Leeze!!!! Oh, an Kimo Von Oehlhoffen was Little Lord Fauntleroy.
If there were an actual MAN who played for the Bungles, both of those punks would have been carted off of the field with major injuries - just the one’s they cheap-shotted on the Bungles. As it is, the Bungles will gladly play prison-bitch to the Stillers. It’s the Marvin Lewis way.
Try being a (1 playoff win in 50 years/0-16)Lions fan....where the football season ends in September.
ouch....
The should probably keep Big Ben in Pittsburgh as long as possible before the Super Bowl, just to be safe.
Lots of young women running around in Dallas these days.
I always get a kick out of people complaining that a relatively small wide reciever hits linebackers twice his size too hard.
He’s not small by any means.
