We’re expecting a high of 14 in southern Michigan today. The great lakes protect us from the worst of the cold until they freeze over.

Wait! Wait! Wait! Those were wind chill numbers, right?
I experienced -26 in Colorado and it froze my car battery.

Global Warming. Oh, coldest day on record. Climate change caused by global warming.

It is amazing that anyone buys into that crap anymore.

Nonsense. Those are wind-chill figures. It’s a few degrees below zero in Chicago, air temp. It’s nothing compared to the record low temps for the upper Midwest.

I don’t. But, cold is cold. What did it get down to in Chicago last night?

-28oF this AM. Wright County Minnesota.

My truck didn't want to start. Took 45 minutes to convince it. I think I may have boiled the battery a bit. It needed replacing anyway, but I was hoping it'd last until at least the end of March.

Wow, I thought we in Michigan had it bad! I had a friend who lived in Minnesota and he said it got so cold at times they had to treat the windows so they wouldn’t shatter in the cold. Now I see why

Yes, the Chicago number is wrong. The Minnesota number is correct. There were numerous locations in Minnesota last night where the atcual temperature was in the -40 to -45 range.

Now that I doubt. Some folks will put a sheet of clear plastic over their windows to help prevent drafts or to keep the glass from acting as a “heat exchanger”... But not from shattering due to cold.

I guess Mother Nature doesn’t buy into Global Warming. Or AGW. Or however they’re trying to peddle it.

The only thing making the temps bearable here in W. Michigan is the fact that the sun is out.

If it was overcast like it was the past week, I would be curled up in a corner right now.

Weather.com has the current temp (10:30am CST) as -20F (actual not windchill) in International Falls, and -2F is the projected high.

It rarely gets very, very cold when it’s overcast. The coldest nights are crystal clear, something to do with radiational cooling. Clouds act as a blanket. (H2O is a more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2.)
