"Sherman would have made a good Southern general."

I'm not sure about that. There was a symbiosis between Sherman and Grant that made each man a better warrior. It's a fascinating dynamic and one that is explored thoroughly in Charles B. Flood's Grant and Sherman: The Friendship That Won the Civil War

Lee blew it at Gettysburg, had he taken the high ground upon arriving the war might have gone the other way...and maybe state's right would be taken more seriously.

Gettysburg was an important battle, but ultimately irrelevant.

Grant won the war at Vicksburg when he cut the Confederacy in two. The Rebs just didn't know it yet.

Lt. Col. Custer does not belong in the presence of giants.

"Lt. Col. Custer does not belong in the presence of giants."

I only included it because I am a southern sympathizer.

That’s an interesting photo. Do you know what year it was taken?

A pic of my GGG granddaddy, George Bibb Crittenden, who was a Brig General with the Confederacy.

The pic was taken during his period of service with the US Army, prior to the outbreak of hostilities.

Looks like it was taken in the early 1960s to me.
