The world may be 2.4 degrees warmer by the end of this decade, and that could have deadly consequences for global food production, according to a new study overseen by Nobel Prize-winning climate scientist Osvaldo Canziani.

"The Impacts of Climate Change on Food Production: A 2020 Perspective," was published Tuesday afternoon by an Argentina-based non-profit group called the Universal Ecological Fund released (UEF).

According to the report, by 2020 there will be a shortfall of 14 per cent for global wheat production, 11 per cent for rice and nine percent for maize. Soybeans will be the only major crop that will meet world demand, with a surplus of five per cent.

Who would have ever thought that a longer growing season would cause a crop shortage? /s

increase temps by 2.4F ... Double CO2 concentration in atmosphere...

Crop yields QUADRUPLE.

googling studies from CORNELL University and CHICOM government studies (neither rightwing supporters)

um.. what about the parts of the world that are now too cold to grow crops, or too cold to grow more than one season a year?

Won’t production increase there, with the help of more CO2 to encourage plant growth?

(crickets)

Does anyone here remember the pre-1300 AD Medieval “warm” period, when temperatures were warmer than now in many parts of Europe? It was that warmer period that allowed for longer food growing seasons, and starvation was definitely not a problem then....

"Climate change to spur crop shortages by 2020"

I believe it...

As the weather gets colder and colder (due to Global Warming of course...) the growing season will get shorter and shorter until the glaciers start moving south from Canada...

[The world MAY BE 2.4 degrees warmer by the end of this decade, and that COULD HAVE deadly consequences...]

[...by 2020 there WILL BE a shortfall of 14 per cent for global wheat production...]

They go from ‘maybe’s’ and ‘could have’s’ to a ‘WILL BE’ which relies on ‘MAYBE’ and ‘COULD HAVE’ being a true prediction.

These ‘Weather Swami’s’ are certifiable.

Who are you kidding - those people are all dead thanks to global warming.

But then again, it may not: Climate change study had 'significant error':

Bull. If we do have sustained warming, then the area of land that could be used for farming would increase. Do these libtards ever realize that we have a whole lot of folks that live in deserts, but nearly no one lives on ice caps?
