A Mosin-Nagant, that is! She's old, and a bit rugged, but even my wife fell in love with it and got excited. It was right at closing time, and she encouraged me to buy it then, instead of coming back, because it might not still be there tomorrow! Ya Gotta love a woman like that!
They are sturdy-good guns.
The brass cased Yugo that was going around a while back was really good ammo. Hungarian and Czech ammo as well as Russian is good too. I’d try a little of each to see what the gun liked before I started stocking up though.
You know, at these prices, you will have a closet full of ammo and another rifle or 2 soon.
What SVT 40???
I didn’t notice a gun in that picture.
Mine’s a ‘39
The ethereal thing will be gone in a moment.
Eff the Eastern Block Crap. Winchester has nice soft tip 180 flat shootin’ ammo... Expensive? yes, but worth every penny.... Kill an Elk if you want. Impress other shooters at the range... Let the game warden hear your cannon, ( mine did, asked about it ) ... your friends will be sore, you will be more so... I compare them to a 30wsm, but they are more accurate and do more damage... I am in love... I am talking about the 91/30 long barrel...
I got it from these guys. Nice rifles they have. Mostly M39s. Many were built on antique receivers and the UPS driver will bring it right to your door! (Prices a bit high? Well, maybe, but a heck of a collection they have)
Don't own one, but have seen other people with them, out at the range, smacking boulders with them. Raises up quite a cloud of dust, compared to the .223.
Wideners has them for $79 and up, plus the transfer fee and shipping and all that. Case of 1200 rounds ammo for $300 and up. Cheaper than .223 and twice the punch.
If you're on a budget and want a rifle that packs a wallop, hard to beat that. Not to mention, you could use it for deer, bear, moose, wild pig, etc. And it's a piece of history.
The ol' lady is 34 (and prettier than when I met her twelve years ago!). I haven't done the research on the rifle yet
chucked it up on the shed
I bet you're not originally from Texas- no Texan says "chuck"- we say "chunk". It's okay, though- if you're a Freeper, we're glad to have you! :))
Mosins are like potato chips. You can’t have only one!
I have a Mosin from 1897
I’m getting old. I saw the SVT-40 first, then the healthy young lady.
That is a bad sign.
It will be good while it lasts
My wife bought me a Mosin for Christmas!
My next purchase, if I can find the model....
I love the hands on mag shooting style.
Sadly the SVT 40 was not a robust gun, but it was sexah.
Its lack of robustness has curiously led to its being worth good money.
The old mosin nagants just go and go, there are gazillions of them, so....
They are cheap
Its true art. LoL
