Family Held At Gunpoint After Home is Mistakenly Raided By Police

SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. (WPIX) — It was a classic case of mistaken identity for a Spring Valley family Thursday when federal agents and police raided their home and reportedly held their teenage daughter at gunpoint.

The father, David McKay, said police dragged his wife, brother-in-law and daughter out of bed, separated him from his family and even threatened to shoot their dog, according to a report in The Journal News.

The federal Drug Enforcement Administration had an arrest warrant for a man they believed lived in the Spring Valley family's house, but it turned out he lived a couple houses away.

"You go barging into someone's home with guns and pull them out of their bed, you better make sure you have all your i's ... dotted and your t's crossed," McKay told The Journal News.

The raid was part of drug trafficking investigation that involved over 200 federal and local officers and has so far led to the arrest of 26 people across New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, officials said. The DEA believes they are responsible for distributing more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana since 2006.

"We sincerely regret that while attempting to execute an arrest warrant for a member of this drug trafficking organization, the innocent McKay family was inadvertently affected by this enforcement operation," Special Agent in Charge John Gilbride said in a statement issued to PIX 11 News.

The DEA did finally arrest the correct person, who, along with the others arrested, was arraigned in White Plains on Wednesday.

McKay's family, meanwhile, has been traumatized from the incident. His daughter suffered from an asthma attack during the raid and was taken to Nyack Hospital.

Are people going to have to start building fortress houses to prevent or at least slow entry by the Special Weapons and Thuggery teams?

You betcha! I used to build houses and I've thought about a number of simple things to do to make it difficult to carry off these home assaults.

Cops often opt not to use no-knock warrants on places that are difficult to accomplish dynamic entries on. If they really want to bust someone they can find another way and they know it.

It's a long list of felonies...

...that the police committed.

Yes, but they won't be charged.

As far as I know I’ve never heard about the Tokarev (762x25) until after I posted my last message and then you mention it. For some reason I like the FN 5.7 but will definitely look at the Tokarev again.

WTF!!!

Who cares if these people are sound asleep...wake them up, and identify yourself, handcuff them and question.

No need for the drama...besides...why not wait till morning and get them as they come out of the house.

It is this stupid War ON Drugs we have lost!
this proves the stupidity of the WOD...there is so much big bucks with LEA and the prisons, you will never calm this down and get rational!

Thirty plus years ago I had a Cincinnati cop pull me over and point a gun at me for having a headlight out on my car. I haven’t trusted a *bleeping* cop since then.

Prayers for the girl and rest of the family.

...get a pistol in 762x25.

Is that the one Travis McGee used to recommend?

Search for Yugo M57 or CZ52, both use that cartridge and can be found for $200-$250, depending on where you look. They are the finest in commie engineering. I have a CZ52 I got a few years ago and like it. It is about the size and weight of a 1911 so it would not be at the top of my list for concealed carry b/c of that and the fact that the cartridge will tend to over penetrate. Surplus ammo is still abundant and not too expensive. There is some commercial ammo available but most, like the surplus is FMJ. There are some JHP out there but since I don’t intend on using it for self defence I have not checked on the price.

The FN pistol you mention is nice but I can’t justify the price. I think, last time I checked, they were well over $600.

We need to disband all paramilitary police units.

They are not military and ‘playing army’ often gets innocent people killed along with their pets.

I would sue these motherfu##ers for everything I could. As a department and personally. These people have licenses to kill and are so protected by the law it’s not funny. they get all amped up on red bulls and roids and just really get off on doing this crap.

They will get sued and lose big.

Was on a Fed Jury on a DEA case and you hit the nail on the head. These DEA idiots are probably the most inept people I ever sat and listened to, bar none. Hard to beleive we pay these people real money.
