Its the Truth: Producer Defends Pulled Kennedy Mini-Series Posted on January 13, 2011 at 12:03am by Meredith Jessup
After the History Channel pulled his mini-series, The Kennedys, executive producer Michael Prupas insisted Wednesday that the eight-hour series was meticulously researched and is historically accurate.
John and Jackie Kennedy are portrayed by Hollywood actor Greg Kinnear and actress Katie Holmes
Its the truth, he said. The goal of the script from the very beginning was to tell the family story of the Kennedys.
The History Channel announced its decision after a leaked script was denounced by former Kennedy aide Theodore Sorensen as vindictive and malicious. Rumors have also circulated that the Kennedy family was involved in pressuring the cable channel to drop the series, an effort led by the late presidents daughter, Caroline Kennedy with help from the wife of former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver, daughter of the late Eunice Kennedy.
The series which will still air in international media markets reportedly touches on JFKs infidelities and strain in his marriage.
Theres much written evidence of what went on in that family, Prupas pointed out. They truly were a great family that has a Shakespearian story arc that resulted in many tragedies and many great successes. The producer insists it was more important to remain true to history than to protect the Kennedy clans legacy. It is a positive reflection but we have shown the flaws, he said.
With the History Channels cancellation, producers are now looking for a new media outlet to carry the series, masterminded by 24 creator Joel Surnow.
Historically accurate is precisely why they had to pull the project.
Cannot have any truth escape about this family.
The Breakers is in Palm Beach.
Sorry. :)
The real reason is that the right wouldn’t watch and the left would have been exposed to the truth.
Rather against PC form, don’t you think?

The Kennedys were/are ...trash with cash.
When you really think about it there isn’t much to write about the Kennedy’s that is positive—except JFK’s war time experience and the two Camelot years of his presidency. Robert Kennedy seemed to be fairly free from taint, but his life was far from epic.
Aside from that, the Kennedy family was about as dysfunctional as it is possible to get. Given the bent of today’s TV offerings—dysfunctionalism—I guess that would make for good ratings. But the Kennedy family obviously did not want all its dirty laundry put out there for the world to see.
For the record I was an ardent JFK supporter as a 17-19 year-old. Came the dawn. That said, I deplore the assassinations of JFK and his brother.
Ted Sorensen created the Kennedy Myth, and he has protected it.
JFK was asleep on watch and allowed his PT to be snuck up on by the enemy. Yes it was a heroic act to get his mates to safety, if we can believe the story.
Cynical me........sorry to say.
Never be in a boat, plane or car with a Kennedy.
Camelot = Theodore Sorensen BULLSH*T
Bobby got “sloppy seconds” on MM after big brother Jack got through with her.
What? Hollywood created that phony image. He should have been court marshaled for irresponsibly in loosing his boat. Wasn't one of his crew members killed? The Navy's view of his performance is clear from his assignments afterwords.
As an Irish Catholic let me say thank God we were spared yet another tribute to the immoral, crimminal, shanty irish family named Kennedy. A disgrace to the Irish race.
