David Nelson, who grew up in front of America in "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," died Jan. 11 in Century City, Calif., of complications from colon cancer. He was 74.
Nelson was the last surviving member of the Nelsons TV family: actor-bandleader Ozzie; his singing wife, Harriet Hilliard; and his teen-idol younger brother, Rick.

Yes, just damn!
You're right. I saw Rick in concert a couple of times and once met David too back in the '70s. A fine gentleman.
Pleasant show. Sweet and easy going.
My dad ‘knew’ Ozzie and Harriet when he was the very young elevator operator (!) at the Lexington Hotel, New York City, where the Nelsons were staying in the 1930’s. He spoke fondly of them.
Elinor Donahue, Bill Gray, and Lauren Chapin - still with us.
Same here. It was a smallish club, but a blast!
Nice post.
I’ll never forget where I was when Rick Nelson died. We were sitting on the Trinity River levee, just outside downtown Dallas, watching my portable TV and waiting for Rick to appear in the Plaza of the Americas just a mile or so away. Some Tennessee sour mash may have been involved. Seems like it was a New Year’s Eve as I recall.
Wow, that was a long time ago, I should have never sold that old Jeep and Rick should have never gone down in that plane crash.
I still can see it late Saturday nights on one of our channels here.
I think Patty Duke is still alive.
Elinore Donohue, Shelly Fabres, Patty duke, Paul Peterson.
Wow, no kidding?
My mom was born in Claremore.
Elinore was the sales lady who helped Julia Roberts get a dress after Hector Elizondo called her in “Pretty Woman”
RIP, Dave. So many of us ‘grew up on’ you and your family. I doubt I missed a single show as a kid. It was iconic Americana, even if more Hollywood than ‘real life.’
I pray your surviving family finds peace and comfort in your passing.
Did a little acting, and a lot of directing and producing.
Shelly Fabares, (sp?)(Donna Reed, I think), Andy Griffith (Andy Griffith, Andy of Mayberry), Jim Nabors, (Andy of Mayberry, Gomer Pyle, USMC)Ron Howard, (Opie-Andy of Mayb.), Elinor Donahue (Father Knows Best?), Patty Duke Astin (Patty Duke Show), Paul Peterson (Donna Reed), Jay North (Dennis the Menace), Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore (Dick Van Dyke Show), etc...
How sad. The Sirius radio classics channel plays their radio sitcom occasionally. — that channel is like discovering a whole new world, listening to all these very entertaining radio shows for the first time.
Oh my gosh! I didn’t realize he was 74! I loved that TV show!
Johnny Crawford “The Rifleman”, Jon Provost “Lassie”...
He had a cane and portrayed a retired master thief with (presumably) a normal family he was trying to protect. Reality can be such a disappointment. We still have his record album from his Dr. Kildare days.
Oh yeah, I remember him now. There’s also the actor who was to blame for his wife’s death, uh..Bobby Blake? I thought of J. Provost just after I made my post! I think the lady who played his mom-June Lockhart may still be alive too. Max Baer and Donna Douglas (Beverly Hillbillies) are still alive too.
Incidentally, Max Baer (Jethro)was the nephew of an actor who played in the movie “Quo Vadis”! His name was Buddy Baer. He played the big bodyguard to the Deborah Kerr charactor, and a gladiator of ancient Rome. In that movie. I wondered for a long time if they were related. If you haven’t seen “Quo Vadis”, be sure to see it sometime! It’s a good movie, and it has “Jethro’s” uncle! Elinor Donahue, “Father Knows Best” was in “Cold Case” several months ago!
Two other stars from that era that are still alive, are Tina Louise(Ginger)and Dawn Wells (Mary Anne) from “Gilligan’s Island”. Some of the cast from “Lost In Space” are still around (June Lockhart from “Lassie” was in that too). The children from “Addams Family” series are as well, though the adult actors I think have all died now.
