It was 150 years ago today that Florida declared itself sovereign from the United States.
Some Southern states have marked the anniversaries of secession with celebrations; in South Carolina, a secession gala was met with protests and controversy.
In Florida, a reenactment was quietly held by the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Tallahassee on Saturday, where about 40 volunteers dressed in period attire performed a condensed version of the convention. It was at that convention where a 62-7 vote led to secession in 1861, making Florida the third state to leave and later join the Confederate States of America.

So says you. Nobody is defending slavery. Secession was legal and still is legal, you don't have to like the reason for it, it could be over tulip bulb futures.
There is nothing wrong with defending the South in her secession bid, wanting a decentralized National Government is the most conservative value there is. To criticize the South for seceding makes you a hypocrite, relishing in her defeated makes you a state-ist, a big government goon.
Ease up on ole MikeFromCluelessville. He's on a noble mission to make sure we don't give ammunition to the leftards and sheeple who live for our words of slavery and Civil War. It is his job to make sure we are bested and dammit he is never gonna give up.
Just once I wish one of these yahoos would post a some of this supposed ammunition where it is used against "us".
The south seceded because they were afraid their property was going to be taken away.
This wasn’t about guns, it certainly wasn’t about land or anything else, it was about PEOPLE. You can’t deny that. The very proclamations issued by the states of the CSA are all over it.
And then, they fired the first shot.
You can screech about states rights as much as you want, but the concept has been warped to fit your very limited worldview while the slaves were still being held.
I’m going to keep posting it until you either disprove it or realize that the CSA was WRONG to hold the slaves and that the CSA shills have been WRONG to warp states rights into it.
I’ll keep going as long as I need too.
hur hur mikefromcluelessville
LOL - well it SLIGHTLY better than spikefromohio...not much, but you wannabes are getting slightly more creative.
BTW your girlfriend cowgirlway keeps sending me PMs telling me to stop. I can’t imagine any other course of action to keep me going more LOL
My ancestors, who were in the Army of NoVa, were from Bedford County VA. and none owned slaves. But even if they did it wouldn't matter. They killed a lot of Yankees, maybe some from Ohio. What difference does it make if the dead Lincoln storm trooper hero was killed by someone who owned slaves or not. A dead Yankee is a dead Yankee.
So if Texas secedes over air pollution regulations, then they are fighting to protect dirty air? You really are pathetic South hater. See a doctor, Prozac may help.
How’s your research project going? Have you found one of these mythical “Conservatives are warmongering secessionists” posts on the web yet? I would suggest starting at the KOS website.
The preceding article would have permanently barred anyone of full or partial African descent from voting or holding office.
my research? What the hell are you babbling about this time?
LOL - I hate the south because I’m telling you the rabble-rousers who started the Civil War did it primarily to keep people in bondage....
Apparently your views of the Civil War cannot stand up to criticism and/or the fact. haha.
Good luck!
It’s pretty clear these two (Cowboyway and central_va) can’t handle any type of opposition to their utopia. Kinda communist of them, eh?
Sorry for not being more explicit about “public.” I thought it was implied, as I had referenced public comments about the evils of slavery by the Founders, not their private communications.
I realize Lee was all in favor of “spiritual liberty” for blacks. He just didn’t think they should receive their physical liberty anytime in the next few centuries. Do you disagree that people are less likely to achieve spiritual liberty when they are physically enslaved?
Your final comment was a non-response response. By what criteria do you consider defense of the institution of slavery not to be in conflict with the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence? Lee quite obviously and explicitly did NOT consider “all men to be created equal.”
I’m not surprised you’d stoop to the level such as to make fun of and otherwise deride a brave soldier of our great republic.
Typical, coming from you. You haven’t seen any of us making fun of ANY Confederate dead. Why? Because it serves no purpose. Of course these threads serve no purpose because nothing will ever come from you wannabes, but the point is made.
Then I assume you won't have any trouble pointing to some of those Northern States' congressional representatives making that clear, right?
The fact is that about a full 25% of the Army was on the Texas frontier in the decade before secession, vastly larger, proportionately, than the percentage of the armed forces in Iraq at the height of the surge.
Douglas had been a viable future presidential candidate when he helped engineer the 1850 Compromise, but his political career was utterly destroyed by the slavery issue and Kansas-Nebraska. Kansas-Nebraska was his effort to straddle and finesse the slavery issue being pushed by Free Soilers and Northern Whigs. Lincoln not only unhorsed Douglas but wrecked his party with the slavery issue.
You are aware, right, that Lincoln lost to Douglas in the 1858 senate race, four years after you say his political career was "utterly destroyed" by the Kansas-Nebraska Act?
Sir, with all due respect, you have repeatedly posted on other threads that you are all in favor of secession and look forward to a war.
You posted an image on this thread of a dead Union soldier, with a comment indicating your approval.
If you are not a "warmongering secessionist," who is?
I agree, the Lincoln invasion and rape of the South did not serve any purpose, just got a lot of guys killed. Then again that monster has his temple now, so all is ok.
The Republican Party was founded as a direct response to the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Lincoln re-entered politics after many years in private life as another direct response.
So Douglass’ attempt to suck up to the slaveocrats created his own nemesis.
The supposition from your side is that we Free Republic secessionist are fueling the MSM and others with ammunition, and also it has been stated the we are not really conservatives, just a bunch of wannabe Klansman. So spare me your BS. Your mantra is that my ancestors died for slavery, and I dare post one of your dead invaders from 150 years ago, and the first thing one of you neo fascists do is hit the abuse button. Very ironic. Hypocrites. Can't take reality.
