Just saw the Congresswoman participating in the reading of the Constitution that was done on the House floor this week. The whacko that shot her professed in his YouTube rantings his disbelief in the Constitution. Could it be that he saw his Congresswoman reading the Constitution? The inevitable snap occurred and his decision was made?
He shot at the Congresswoman because he knew it would generate more attention than shooting at innocent bystanders. That’s just my prediction, of course, but I haven’t heard anything about this guy that convinces me he had any particular political ideology. His anti-government rantings on the website could have been from the left, the right or anywhere in between. He was just nuts. He shot the Congresswoman, but then he shoots a bunch of other people indiscriminately. Guys who do that are generally just looking for attention. They don’t care who they shoot, except to the extent that shooting someone in particular might generate more attention.
If they want to do something about this kind of thing, then they should start with getting the media to change their reporting so that there is less focus on the perpetrator. That’s what he was looking for.
He ranted against dollar and mock its slogan (”No, I won't trust in God). he demanded a “new”, personal, people's currency.
He adhered to ‘conscience dreaming” - another leftist, though obscure, issue - the “shamanic” way of life as opposed to modernity. He wanted all of us to be such “dreamers”.
He already met Giffords once and found her “stupid and unintelligent” - typical blather of the leftist toward a person, who disagrees with him.

This wasn’t a left-right hit. This was a whack job that finally snapped and went off. He chose her as his target. He could just as easily have gone off on the school officials that booted him out of school.
You're exactly right. It's oriented to induce a certain mindset in what the marxist Democrats consider the gullible portions of the American public. And the truth is it works far to often. The media in America is totally corrupt and no longer has any credibility.

He was punishing her for either reading the Constitution or voting for Pelosi. His computer likely had the Daily Kook on its fovorites list.

MSM is not discussing this, but you can’t rule out the possibility that the Congresswoman may have been targeted for her vote against Pelosi as House Democrat Minority leader.
To silence us and/or get us to cower. To take us off the message of the last two years, the message that's been working. Which is to say, to get us to stop calling the Obammunist and his lackeys what they are...Marxist tyrants...and pointing out that his goal is to destroy our nation as we know it.

He had a head full of anti-government conspiracy theories and likely feared/hated the entire government. He chose Giffords because she was nearby and accessible. He had also had a previous contact with Giffords according to the twitter girl, so she would have had special significance for him. So she became the particular target for his generalized rage against the political establishment. Also, as you say, he was nuts.
The media’s distortion of this event is not the question.
The whacko couldn’t string 3 coherent sentences together. I highly doubt that he was master-minding some plot to silence the right.

Just because he listed a particular book on his website as a favorite book doesn’t mean he was motivated by that to shoot at her. He also shot 19 other people. What did they have to do with the Communist Manifesto? Or for that matter Mein Kampf, which was one of the other books he listed? He was just cracked. That’s all.

He never mentioned Pelosi. He did talk about the Constitution.
